This forum is a great way to be introduced to both sitting and requesting sits.
I had a local sitter apply for a sit. I was confused (not knowing prior to reading some of your posts) that this is normal. My initial thoughts were - why would a local want to stay at my house? When I contacted her, she mentioned that this was a good way to “make extra money”.
Being a “newbie”, I didn’t think money was exchanged. Can you please enlighten me and also give me a baseline of what is normally paid for these services, if you even do this?
Thanks for the help.
Welcome @mowolf
Sitters are not allowed to ask for money on THS . This is what the terms of service say
5.3. The following applies only to Sitters. You will:
5.3.1. not require or demand any form of payment for carrying out a Sit
If a sitter demands / suggests that you need to pay them - can remind the sitter of the T&Cs or you may want to report the sitter to THS

There are many reasons why a local person may do an unpaid THS sit . This has been discussed on previous threads like these

A host can give a sitter a gift of appreciation but sitter cannot ask for or expect anything.

There are many sitters on THS who also do private paid sits , but these are arranged outside of THS platform .

She’s incorrect about making money here, unless she means indirectly because she AirBnB’s her home out or something while she sits?
I sit locally and it’s because I enjoy seeing other areas of the city, I don’t have a garden so sitting somewhere that has one is lovely in the summer.

Someone is trying it on. It’s a mutual beneficial service. The host gets great pet and property care. The sitter gets to spend time with beautiful pets in a clean comfortable environment and is able to do some local exploring. Walk away.

She may not understand how it works. I’d let her know that THS doesn’t work that way and you would not be compensating her for sitting.
