Can owner be in house when sitter there?

@SJF this is the kind of sit that can be reported to member services

I had sitters on THS who asked me to come 3 days earlier because they had a good flight than. I also had sitters who stayed a little longer for the same reason.

We are communicative and interested persons and enjoy meeting new people. I always choose persons who I find pleasant and with whom I also like to share a dinner and a glass of wine.

Hard no. Remember the sitter is there to enjoy the accomodations in the same way that someone would on Airbnb or Verbo. Having a third party there is just weird and uncomfortable for everyone.

Saw a local sit which was avertised for one day ie from 26th to 26th because the dog can’t be left alone. Granted it was in a nice area with good facilities. The HO did say someone could stay the night before and/or after and at least 3 apps within the first 6 hrs. Surely it would be easier and more comfortable for everyone to just pay for a dog carer for that one day. I wonder whether in these situations any people ever apply offering paid services - I know its against the ruled but I’m not sure I would blame them if they do.

Hi @Lottiemillar and welcome to the forum and to THS. A brave first post for the forum :grinning:
As you will come to see unexpected visitors or inhabitants during a sit is big issue amongst sitters and also not permitted. However thank you for checking and coming to get advice.
One option for your husband if he may or may not need somewhere to stay is for him to perhaps stay with a friend locally and leave the home for the exclusive use of the sitter. Then you have consistent pet care and can think of it as boarding for your husband :slightly_smiling_face:

To be honest, I could see the benefit of this and this sounds kind of nice for a quick visit to a new place or a nice break because it’s basically 2.5-3 days in a location when only one night requires actual sole responsibility, which means more time to explore the area. (if that’s what the HS is looking for)

I, personally would could that as a 1 or 2-night listing on TH because that 3rd day after is basically me just housing a couch surfer, but that first orientation day and the actual sit would be the official sit in my mind and coverable based on TH T&Cs.

There’s another thread posted that talks about this: "Consistent Person Wanted"

I agree, we try to do this, have them come for a meal the night before to chat through everything, in some cases they have stayed one night in a B+B, at their own choice. My only criteria would be agreeing with the sitter for someone to come ride my horse occasionally.

Errr yes but there is no night of sole responsibility. The sitter is only being sought to look after the dog during the day on that one day as the owners never leave the dog alone and they can stay the night before and after. There wouldn’t be much exploring the area on that day.

Aaaaah! I misread that. I thought it was for one night. Yea…doesn’t sound like that would meet T&Cs!
