A digital nomad sitter traveling in a van is coming in 2 weeks for stay with a flexible end date. She applied for a sit we listed for later in the spring but in our listing introduction we wrote that we are open to other dates throughout the year. She said she would be passing through our area in Feb and that period interested us. We exchanged email addresses and then I declined her application so that others could apply for the spring dates. Since then all arrangements for this sit have been organised by email. My question is, at the end of the sit will we be able to review each other since this sit is “off the record”? We don’t have any reviews because it’s our first sitter using THS and we would like to have one.
You won’t be able to review each other but the sitter can ask you for a reference, not the other way round though
@KChev if she isn’t coming until 2 weeks time go ahead and send her a private sit invitation for the actual event through the app.
Just because it was arranged off the books doesn’t mean you should go ahead and complete the sit without the insurance coverage and support of the actual trusted housesitter platform. That’s kind of what you pay membership towards.
After that you will be able to leave each other a review which is very important especially if this is your first sitter.
Best of luck
It’s not an official sit. So no help whatsever from THS if anything goes wrong. You can’t leave reviews for each other. Since there are no external references for homeowners, she can’t attest to the loveliness of your home or delightfulness of your pets. You can, however, review her as an external reference, but she’d have to send you a link to do that, so if the sit is a disaster, she won’t, and people don’t give as much weight to external reviews anyway.
You can – if she agrees – invite her to sit through THS on private dates. You’d send her THS-mail with an invitation to the dates. She’d accept the invitation. You’d both make sure the actual days worked so there are no overlaps or other issues. You’d confirm her as a sitter. She’d confirm she can do the sit. Then it’s a official, and you can review each other. Assuming it works out and is great for both of you, you both get reviews which helps you get more sitters and helps her get more sits.
I see no problem. As I understand it, you are members of THS and the sitter too.
Just invite her by sending private dates. (I am a sitter, I do not quite know what this looks like on the interface.)
Then she applies. Then you accept. Then she confirms. (Yes, all these steps are necessary for the review but it can be done within minutes.)
Thank you everyone. Sending her private dates seems to be the best solution.
@KChev this tells you how to send a private invitation through the THS platform.
