New to THS but had our first two sits confirmed. I’ve checked carefully the reviews of HO of all applications but noticed a couple of times a sit was logged but no review given by sitters. All other reviews were 5 stars Why would sitters not leave a review? Have you as a sitter done this?
No reviews left by previous sitters, to me, is a potential red flag

I did think that but the HO left very positive review for the sitter so didn’t appear to be any issues on the sit.
The HO may have found everything to be fine and dandy, but not necessarily the sitters (speaking from experience)

Were they repeat sitters for same HO ? In which case they may not think it necessary to leave a review each time .
You can also investigate to see if the sitter usually leaves reviews for other owners …

I got a rave review from a host I didn’t review, because I found their kitchen and dining room gross. This was early days when I sat. Now, with a bunch of sits under my belt, I would review them with specifics and knock off at least one star on cleanliness.

In a review, you can sometimes say a lot by not saying some things, if you follow

That’s a fair point.
Did you feel that if you left a less than 5 star review it might impact on their review of you? Or did you feel it was easier to say nothing.

At the time, I gave them benefit of doubt, because everyone has different cleanliness levels and their previous sitters had reviewed them well. I also had limited THS experience to compare with. Now, I’ve been on enough sits where I know what’s reasonable to expect. It was by far the dirtiest home I’ve sat, though not as terrible as some sitters have experienced. Also, they got off lucky, because I don’t cook.

Both UK - one on the Isle of Mull in Scotland and one in the South West of England. Both HO seem lovely and very excited to see if it all works as expected. I’m an over planner - so like to know all the details and understand the expectations. We’ve always already known the people who we sit for - so its the unknown with what in are affect complete strangers. I have to build rapport quickly with people in my work but having read a lot of threads on the forum am not so naïve to know that sometimes what you see is not what you get. I’m sure once we have one or two with THS under our belt we’ll feel better.

Its an interesting one but we had a similar experience with a self catering holiday, which had been in the family for a long time and grandparents have lived in once upon a time. It was a fantastic place but one reviewer had complained about the amount of stuff in and cleanliness of kitchen. It didn’t put me off as I felt I knew what to expect. We just moved a few things out of the way and did a clean before we got started. It ended up being one of the best holidays we ever had. I really didn’t feel inclined because of this to mention the kitchen situation. Future potential customers had the other review to read and be forewarned. I just want to get over the hump with our first THS sit - we’ve done others but have always known the person before hand.

We’ve got 6 confirmed sits this summer/autumn and are in the same position of wanting to get these under our belts with 5* reviews. I’m a bit concerned we might have a dodgy HO unbeknownst to us amongst these as a few are new HOs… so no reviews. It was a risk but we’re new too….so wanted to take the sits. Of course the HOs might be concerned that we ourselves are a bit dodgy as we have no reviews as yet just references…. I’m planning on being ULTRA good
