We confirmed a sitter for our dog and two cats starting today. She did not have any reviews but we thought we would take a chance. Yesterday I checked in to see what time she would arrive and she did not answer. Now today, both kids have Covid and we will likely need to cancel the housesit and stay home. I have already sent her a message, but how else do I can the housesit? I dont see an option to cancel after it already technically started, even thought she would arrive tonight. Any tips?
Thanks!
Yikes! Talk to member services if you need to cancel but very strange that she wasn’t in touch beforehand to confirm arrangements. Had you had much communication with her before that point? Hopefully she’s okay. But that’d be very stressful if you were going and she hadn’t turned up!
Do you have the sitters phone and direct email address. First thing I do after setting up a new sit is get phone and direct email.

Oh no, what a bummer! Maybe she is en route already and not getting your messages? You can ask member services to help contact her another way. If you’re really cancelling at this point, it would be considerate to help the sitter find and offer to pay for other lodgings, at least until she can get another sit or get home. I don’t know the details but she may be out time and money already and have nowhere else to go. Depending on her membership level maybe THS can help with that too. Best of luck, hope your kids are better soon.
@giffknits you can’t cancel a house sit on the day it starts .
You need to contact member services so that they can contact the sitter on your behalf .
There is a phone number shown on your dashboard for emergencies. If the sitter is on their way to you this is an urgent situation.
Had you shared a welcome guide and or your address with your sitter ? If not they aren’t coming because they don’t have you address .
Hello @giffknits and welcome
What a day…
Something to consider…or not…
If you do not hear from the thsitter…you would have really been left in a bind…
If you leave the house sit on your profile… you will be able to leave a review for the sitter and objectively state this situation… future home hosts should know of this unreliability.
