Hi @Jlt59. Can you clarify if you were partially reimbursed by the HO or the airline. Thanks.

I don’t mean the host should reimburse, I mean making it a requirement that the sitter opts for refundable travel costs.

Thanks but I mean updating the terms so that the sitter should be encouraged to opt for refundable travel costs.

THS won’t be doing anything of the sort, because it’s not their business to require anyone to buy X airfare, etc. It’s actually an individual responsibility and most of us don’t need a nanny state.

The host has reimbursed me.

If you read my initial comment it says encourage, doesn’t say anything about forcing people to pay for refundable flights.

This is your comment, to which I replied.

I have never requested THS to reimburse me. It would be super helpful if people could read the post and replies before making assumptions. In any case, I have got the solution I wanted.

Sometimes I will, sometimes I won’t.

@Jlt59 oh I see - I don’t think they will do that either - the T&Cs are clear sitter is responsible for their own travel expenses. How each individual member manages the risk of a cancelled sit is up to them .

What I think would be helpful is a Help article

  • What do I do if my sit is cancelled?

It’s a frequent topic on the forum .

There’s a help article for hosts if their sitter cancels, but not one for sitters . Another aspect where sitters not supported @Carla @Jenny please can you pass this suggestion to the relevant people in THS ?

This is the article for hosts

Great, thank you for another insightful comment.

Replying again as people seem to be insistent on replying without reading my comments properly. My suggestion to update the terms to encourage (NOT FORCE) to book refundable - I’m keen for this to not happen to anyone in the future. It would be wonderful if other experienced sitters had the same perspective on improving things for newer sitters, instead of perpetuating negativity on posts. As mentioned, I have the outcome I wanted. Have a blessed day.

You used the word “requirement”. Do you know what that word means?

Thank you @Silversitters I will pass that suggestion on to the team.

As the OP has mentioned a couple of times they have the solution they need, it seems this topic has run its course and is best closed. Thank you to everyone who joined the discussion to help the OP

It is also a quick reminder of our kindness Guidelines when members are interacting with each other, you don’t have to agree with each other but please keep it kind and respectful when people are taking the time to try and help each other.

Please feel free to use the spyglass or start a new topic if you would like to discuss sit cancellations further.

Thank you
