If the cat you’re sitting has wet food but is elderly/fussy and only eats a little at a time, how do you manage the flies this attracts? I’ve been putting the bowl in the fridge covered up whilst the cat is out and about, he has dried food available too. However he doesn’t like cold food…
I do the same, and then I’ll either microwave it for a few seconds or add a bit of hot water if that doesn’t totally wreck the texture.
Good ideas although can’t microwave the metal bowl and can’t change it due to ‘fussiness’ and familiarity. This is getting complicated….he won’t starve though, maybe he’ll learn to gobble up his food if it keeps disappearing?!
Try just putting a small amount down for him at a time. Less to waste if it needs throwing out. If refrigerating it as you have been, bring it to room temp before feeding him. You could also put it on a plate to microwave then transfer to his metal bowl.
You leave it out 30 minutes before giving it to him. That’s what we did with ours when they were fussy about the temperature.
At this rate I’ll be spoon feeding him with a caviar spoon ![]()

I’m sure you’ll manage ![]()
Great question, @BonnyinBrighton - and the fly screen sounds like a great idea! I have the same issue with Walter so I’ll need to try something similar.
Can you let us know how you get on with the screen?
