The other day, @Garfield and I were chatting about Pokémon Go, and it brought back all the memories of how much fun I had when I first started playing. For anyone who’s never tried it, it’s kind of like a mix between a treasure hunt and a walk in the park, but with Pokémon! You use your phone to find and catch them as they “hide” around you in the real world. You might find them in your gym, your garden, or even your favorite coffee shop.
It was huge back in 2016 and had everyone getting their steps in without even trying. That got me thinking… Do we have any fellow gamers in the community?
I used to game a lot in my teens, and again later on when I worked as a community manager for a gaming community. These days, being a mom keeps me pretty busy, so I haven’t played much lately, but I still love it!
Some of my all-time faves are The Witcher, Hogwarts Legacy, any Tomb Raider or Assassin’s Creed, Among Us, and Fortnite.
So how about you, any gamers around here? What kind of games do you like? Maybe we could even set up a little match sometime!
We recently bought a Switch, and I’ve been loving Hogwarts Legacy! My fiancé is a bit of a gamer, especially when he’s with his brother - they play hours of FIFA on the Xbox, as well as fishing games. They both actually learnt English (as a second language) as young kids & teens through gaming rather than school
Isn’t it the best? When I am feeling a bit stressed I like to go for a walk around the castle, and it’s incredible how well designed the whole game is, from the dialogues to the spells. What’s your Hogwarts house?
Games are great for language learning, all those subtitles and dialogues that you need to repeat over and over, still, what they did is really impressive!!
Hufflepuff How about you? Currently I’m stuck in Jackdaw’s rest fighting massive spiders and it’s taking me a while to get past this level but I’ll get there
I had to pop on and share a few of my favourite games!
Firstly, these specific Final Fantasy games. These ones hooked me more than the others, and I’ve replayed them all many times.
Final Fantasy VII (the original and the remakes)
Final Fantasy VIII
Final Fantasy XV
Life is Strange - the whole series is amazing. I love that they release episodes rather than full games, as it keeps my interest and means I don’t rush through the game.
Road 96 - an indie game that got me hooked - it’s getting scarily like real life in some parts of the world.
I’m a big fan of story-heavy games that don’t involve too much dexterity, and my latest obsession is Lost Records: Bloom and Rage. It’s being released in two parts, and I’m getting really impatient for part two which comes out in just under a fortnight. The game is partly set in 1995, and centred around a group of 17 year olds, who are really into riot grrl music. Totally relatable for this elder millennial!
My latest console purchase is a Switch - just bought it over the weekend - and aside from delving into Animal Crossing I am really looking forward to playing a huge back catalogue of games from all the old Nintendo consoles of my youth.
I’ve never tried Geocaching but it sounds super fun @TravellingWitch - why not start a new topic and tell us all about it? I’d love to hear more! Do you Geocache wherever you’re house sitting?
I’m a Griffyndor! (sorry it took me a while to reply to your comment, I took a couple of days off). I haven’t played in a while so I don’t even know what my last mission was mom life is no joke!
@Jenny all the Final Fantady games are brilliant, love them! And the music is even better. They have some of the best music soundtracks out there.
