We’ve had a cruise of the inside passage of Alaska on our bucket list for years. We jumped on the chance fo a sit in Juneau. We start the sit tomorrow and are last ferry leg. We want to continue exploration of the inside passage after this sit is complete. I found a retired couple in one of the towns we want to explore. Given the remoteness of their location, I’m assuming their vacations are few and far between. Since we will be in the area, maybe they would jump at an inpromptu vacation. How can I let them know we’re available??
An Alaskan cruise is on my bucket list too! Unfortunately, @mbalmand, unless those owners have a live listing and you are not busy on their dates advertised, you are unable to contact them. Disappointing but that’s how it is with THS. You could always save the listing but, as this trip is a very special one, you’re probably not likely to be returning again. Enjoy the rest of your adventure.
Ours is booked for this June and I’m already at fever pitch. It’s one of the many things we have on our bucket list. My problem at the moment is trying to find something to wear at the Gala Dinner that won’t crush!
There is no way to “cold call” this couple unless there has been previous communication between you. Plus, it is highly unlikely they can up and take a vacation just for your convenience. I cannot count the number of times I’ve spotted an ideal sit and wished there was some way to contact them.
We travelled extensively in Alaska a few year ago, in a four wheel drive. It is one of the most beautiful and remote place I have ever been. We did a few sits, one in particular in Fairbanks was memorable. Walking a dog at 1am in daylight was surreal. If you have the time, head up the Alaskan Highway to Prudhoe Bay and take a dip in the Artic Sea, visit Denali and see if you get lucky to see the summit, stop on the road and gaze at wonder at the many glaciers, visit Valdez, a typical Alaskan coastal town and take the ferry through the islands to Anchorage. Wrap up warm though as even in July it was freezing. These are my suggestions but it Alaska is so vast that it would take a lifetime to explore everything it has to offer. Read Alaska by James A Michener. It wetted my appetite for more.
Chances are slim that that this will work but ….
You could suggest a meet up at that location in the title in the meet up section of the forum.
If this couple read the forum they will spot your suggested meet up.
Another way to make known you are available is to change your location on your profile to the area where you want to sit .
When a HO in that area searches for a sitter your name will come up first . ( Unless there are other sitters in the area )
+1 for this one. Then you will pop up. If you do this, I would suggest that you have a sentence in the start of your listing where you say that we will be in ZZ in :period: and might be available for a petsit. Be in touch to discuss.
Or similar. Saves time for you and hosts for sits that won’t work anyway.
