Communications BETWEEN sitters

:woman_facepalming: DOH!!! :woman_facepalming:

I knew I was going to regret asking that…

@MerryPuppins totally get the confusion with the differences between countries terms. I had to ask once what PNW was, again an American abbreviation for Pacific North West but other countries had no idea what it is. I think there was a topic on the Forum a few years back about different abbreviations or slang which was quite funny but I couldn’t find it now

I teach English as a foreign language, I was amazed when in Germany and the students spoke about their Handies/Handys. Turns out that is what they call their mobile phones. It is as bizarre to me as Americans talking about ā€œCellā€ phones. Mobiles, all the way.

I have a new one for you my friend - DEVESTICKI - an individual who cannot be eliminated from one’s brain easily. #acronymalley

@Cuttlefish where on earth did you dig that one up from mate! But I shall definitely keep that one safely tucked away in my memory bank for another time and we all know what for :joy:

I have often thought the same! There should be a link to at least message a previous sitter, I’m sure there would be sits we wouldn’t have done if we could have got a more honest evaluation of the sit.

Oh, mobile (cell) number! I had NO idea what to what you were referring.

I hear of horror stories on here, but we’ve had 40+ amazing sits, and there’s only 1 where ourselves and the owner are just different people, but I still gave her 5 stars for everything, because we’re just different people, different outlook on life, and that’s fine, everyone’s different. All the other HO’s have been lovely, similar minded, appreciative and great on the communication front, and friendly.

Sometimes I read of sitters on here that expect a place to be immaculate, but we don’t, we just want a clean and tidy place in the areas of the home where we ā€œliveā€, and we don’t expect it to be spotless.

I think the two regions where we sit possibly have a higher number of kinder, friendlier, and more accepting people, because of some of the stories on here. They’re the total opposite of our experience.

Also, we aren’t alone, if you had checked the Trustpilot scores a couple of weeks ago before THS changed the rules, you’d have seen that most rate them as excellent. But now they’ve dropped much lower with rule changes. Those excellent reviews were made up with both sitters and owners, the bad stories on here are only a teeny tiny proportion of the experience that people have with THS… until the recent rule change obviously.

It’s not so much about ā€˜honesty’ as the sitter may have written something that another sitter would like to know more about…. pets can often be different with HOs than with sitters.

Yes we’re ā€˜immaculate’ people but that’s ok as we say as much in our profile about being pretty fastidious so get a good match with similar HOs. It’s worth noting that a very old place can be the best it can be for its age- it’s more about domestic personal yukky stuff we don’t like and that’s also the case in our own home. It’s just our thing. We’ve just arrived at an old rambling large property- and found nothing at all to make us pull a face :star_struck:

@Lassie, genius . Shhh don’t say it too loudly or THS may intro this as a new ā€˜platform improvement’ feature at a special price equal to the difference between housesitter and combined HO/sitter membership fee

Thanks for the grace & empathy, all. Travel a lot so I did know ā€œmobile,ā€ as a common reference…that’s what makes me so embarrassed. Total Senior moment lol. I thought mob number was some magic thing given via a membership tier I’d never heard of!

Although it might have been a nice Premium feature, perhaps…

 A Handy means something much different in American slang!
