COVID Positive last minute

I have a 3-week international sit scheduled and I am supposed to fly out in 2 days. I just tested positive for Covid. Do I cancel?

Depends on the rules in your country and your health I’ll guess. In my country it is now like any other disease like influensa etc. If you feel ill stay at home, if you don’t carry on. We don’t test anymore for ordinary «cold-symptoms». Unless you or a relative have a health-situation Where you need to be protected from getting ill, like it was also pre-covid.

Next time don’t test I guess… here Covid is in the same category as flu-s, colds etc which means we don’t test for it. And thus it could be anything…

Obviously try to be cautious around others, but to leave the HO hanging last minute for a 3 week sit because of Covid assuming it’s similar to a flu or cold for you isn’t much fun their side either

Oh, I should probably add: I don’t think there’s any country in the world that still has Covid rules in place relating to travel. Last time I knew about a country that still had something in place re travel (and that was really one of the very very last places with such rules) was March 2023

Only you can make that decision. I suspect a lot will depend on how severe your symptoms are, how long the journey and flight etc., and whether you are immunocompromised. Also, will you be arriving the day before the sit commences? Your hosts might not appreciate coming into contact with the virus, and especially not just before they depart for their hols.

I wouldn’t like to sit next to someone on a plane who was infectious, not just in respect of myself but because of whom I could pass it on to. It might not now be regulated but it’s still of potential concern to those who are more susceptible.

Please let us know what you decide to do.

Unfortunately I am feeling awful at the moment with a fever, chills, and a cough. The trip is a long one with me being on planes for 14 hrs and in 3 airports. I hate to cancel but think it is irresponsible to take a chance of making others sick. And yes I would be at the HOs house for a day and a half before he left.

Then I think you’ve made a responsible decision @mam1996t . I hope you have travel insurance?

Best wishes for your full and swift recovery.

So sorry you feel so bad. You definitely dont want to risk getting the host sick. My husband and i showed up at a house sit once when he had covid. I tested negative. I ket the homeowners know. He stayed in the van and i went inside for the quick handover (it was a repeat sit). We were all masked. We would have felt awful if they would have gotten sick and their vacation was ruined.

So sorry you are feeling so rough, and thank you, thank you, thank you for cancelling - my father picked up something from another traveller and didn’t recover.

I am pretty sensitive to the issue as I lost my brother to Covid.
