Curious how 5* sitters with lots of reviews initially respond when applying for a new sit

Wow, fantastic!!

Will you elaborate on your slick screening process?

Basically go thorough process to work out what you want from a sit, what you can (and are willing to) offer and resist applying for anything that don’t suit. Filters, searches, and a bit of tech set up. Thats stage 1. Stage two is when the HO replies. Stage 3 before and during the preacceptance comms. I go over it in great detail in the course we offer for newbies on our website, along with checklists and templates. But I’m pretty sure I can’t post that here.

I have 29 5** reviews which is low compared to some sitters, yet I’m not full time. Anyway, I introduce myself and discuss their pets first, then i go into a bit more detail regarding my experience, intentions and reasons why i think were a good fit. I also provide my WhatsApp and cell number depending on location of the sit, I’m west coast USA and discuss a potential video chat which is where I’ll elaborate more on my expectations and limits. I prefer to write a paragraph as opposed to 2 or 3 lines.

@Catgoddess_99 I’d love to hear more about your expectations and limits. Are you willing to share that information with me?

Late to the party to reply. but here we go…

I type up crazy long messages, as if I am talking to the person. I will definitely let them know that I’ve read their profile and reviews by things I will include in my message. I will briefly tell the pet owner about myself and why I pet sit. At the end I will ask them to read all of my profile words and reviews and see if we are a good match.

I put a lot of effort in to my messages. I only look for sits as and when, so I have the time to take my time composing a personal first message.

Sure, message me

Hi @NCSitterPD
I have 21 5 star reviews over a bit more than 2 years of THS. I tend to use the same application template but tailored to each HO and their pets.
I tend to mainly cat sit and explain my family had 23 cats growing up, I have looked after a number of more cats in my life. I also add that I volunteered at a cat shelter for a few years.
I then talk about being a responsible person running my own businesses.

what do you say in your followup message if you have not received a reply?

what’s your rejection/acceptance rate?

tough act to beat

I’m not a HO, but I would probably say something like:

Hi (name),
Just following up with our video call chat & sit invite. We really enjoyed chatting to you and would really love if you could sit for us. Please let us know by the end of today if you’d like to confirm & accept our sit offer, as the sit dates are very close and we really need to confirm a sitter.
Regards,

If they don’t respond by the end of the day, then decline and adiós amigos
Hope that helps

Never measured it. I think about 80 to 90%. Some pet owners are very fair and if all things are equal they will pic k the first application they received.

I meant what’s the followup on your application to sit not as a homeowner, as a sitter, isn’t that what you were talking about?

80-90% rejection or acceptance?

Acceptance

Oh sorry, I think I got confused with another thread with a similar question :woman_facepalming:t3: Some of these threads are almost identical but one is from a HO perspective and the other is from a sitter’s

Our follow up message is usually just a brief message saying hi there, just following up with our application as we haven’t heard back and would really love to sit for you. If interested, please let us know so we can connect over a video call, here’s our number.
