That’s exactly what we have decided to do. Fly in 31st January then we will start applying. Of course, if a sit with two active dogs on Malibu Beach comes up, all bets are off. We will jump into the frenzy.
There are bad apples everywhere. There appears to be plenty of them registered as sitters with THS.
I live in a high crime area. I never hear of those arrested having a DBS.
What is a DBS? Is that the same as criminal record check? If so, I had one done thru THS early on, but you’re right, it doesn’t automatically update if I have committed a crime since then, and as my name is the lead on our account, my husband didn’t even have to get one. When we were teaching, we had one done automatically every year for work, but I never saw it. It was just done by the Ministry so it was nothing I could add to THS.
As for travel in Canada, we are seeing exponential growth here right now and almost every province is discouraging travel. That’s not to say it isn’t happening, but there’s certainly a lot less. And my guess would be that most people who do travel will choose sitters who are already in the country, possibly already close by.
I am still fairly new to THS and have to admit I am shocked to read your comment that there appears to be plenty of ‘bad apples’ registered as sitters with THS. Why do you say this? Of course, I have no factual data but my impression to date is that the occurrence of sitters that are not honest, reliable and totally responsible is very rare.

You are deluded if you think that in any walk of life, there are no deviants. Have you no awareness of current affairs? You need to take off those rose-tinted glasses.
‘Bad apples everywhere’ is a fact, it’s not an opinion. I’m a realist. Scroll through the threads here on this forum, and read the Fb posts and you will encounter many, many hair-raising examples of sitters, and HOs, behaving in an unsavoury way.

There have always been & will continue to see bad apples in the community. The media gives these musketeers short of a sword more attention than necessary. I can’t say x or y or z is right but I can always look left & just go on my merry way.
I now have Don Henley’s-Dirty Laundry as an ear worm…
