I would like to know if HO’s receive a notice that I have favorited their sit. I already accepted a week long sit for a house ——without pets. There is another sit for 2 months in the very same city. My husband and I could easily split our time between the two homes and I would love an opportunity to discuss this with the 2 month HO.
If they click on my name after I have favorited them, do they automatically see that I am “busy with another sit” or is there no such notice? I favorited them in the hopes that they would reach out after reading our profile and thinking we would be a good match for them, since there is no way to send them a message. Thanks in advance for any feedback!
As a host with a Premium membership, my experience has been that I don’t receive a notification however one of the added benefits of the higher level membership is that I can see which sitters have favorited my listing.
It is an option (that I’ve turned off), so it’s hard to know whether this particular HO got notification. Your idea is solid though, if they don’t have any applicants they may turn to their favorited list and reach out. I believe they list from newest to oldest, so you’d be at the top. They might look at your calendar and assume you’re busy, but I suspect most don’t bother with the calendar. Hope it works for you!
@idocsteve yep, you’re right, sorry. I know I turned it off at one point because I was getting so many “your sit has been favorited” messages but now it seems you either get everything or nothing. In addition, my notifications in the App are aimed primarily at sitters, and I’m only an HO. And they’re all on, despite my definitely having turned some off. Just another little THS improvement in action
Hi, I’m not sure if I have understood the above as my experience is that as a host, I do get an email notification every time some one likes/favourites our listing.
Personally I then take a look at their listing/profile and if I think they would be likely to be a match I then ‘favourite’ them so when I have the need for a sitter I can approach them first. (and yes I know the calendar doesn’t always work!)
I know I can post dates and how the system works as I’ve used it quite a lot and had great sitters but I have found that for shorter sits of up to 10 days it’s worked well for us to approach sitters who have saved our listing (or been before) and so mainly this is how I now approach finding someone. Obviously I will then post dates if it doesn’t work out with the ‘favourited’ people.
So yes as a Host I do get notified and I find it helpful as well.
Thank you for your response. The HO in this case has regular membership, so it’s not looking very likely that they will see that I favorited them. Shucks! lol
As a premium member home owner, I get an email that says “a sitter has saved your listing” but it doesn’t identify who the sitter is. I have many sitters who have saved my listing so there is no way I can identify who the latest sitter is. How do you identify the sitter who has saved your listing?
What @Crookie just said! If I click “View Sitters” I see all (currently) 489 saved profiles in what seems to be random order. I can “unsubscribe”on my email from these useless emails, but I’m not sure if that would also unsubscribe me from the emails I want such as: “A sitter has sent you a message.”
When a sitter who has “saved” my listing applies, I do NOT recieve any kind of special message or symbol indicating that they previously saved the listing and have eagerly been awaiting the moment! (Sarcasm emoji needed.)
The “save” is really for you as a sitter, so you’ll know when I list a sit publicly.
In the web page the sitterswho have saved my listing are in a chronological order (newest first), but not in the app.
I do get a notification when a sitter saves my listing, but rarely check who they are. I’ve understood that most sitters save listings that they are not able to do this time, but might be able to do in the future. So knowing who saved my listing is not useful info for me.
The only point is that you’ll know if they list again, but if it is a desirable location like NYC, Paris, London, etc – then there is a good chance that by the time you see the alert, the sit might already be in review.
What I recommend might be helpful, is to watch those sits even after they are in review. They’ll go into review as soon as 5 applications are received. They will go back “live” if the homeowner declines some of the applications AND “unpauses” to view more applicants.
As a host in NYC, I’ve had different experiences with the first 5 (or sometimes 6 or 7 if people keep the window open and apply when others do). Sometimes I find the right sitter immediately. Sometimes no one in the first five is going to work for me for various reasons. Recently, I posted a sit and while lots of people applied, it took a while for me to find the “ideal” sitter. My criteria isn’t that complicated or demanding. It’s based on what’s worked before, but because applications are open to anyone sometimes I get applications that I know immediately won’t work – eg no experience with my kinds of pets, something off-putting in the application letter, troubling drama in the sitter’s review history, etc. Therefore, if a sitter kept an eye on my sit, they’d see it moving in and out of “review” and the opportunity to apply might come up.
Your pet’s perfect sitter could just be a few clicks away. Why not take a peek and see who’s recently saved your listing?
Then there is a button under that says ‘view sitters’ when I click on that it takes me to the sitters who have saved my listing and the last one/first one you come to is the person who has just saved the listing. I can then look at their profile and check if they look a good fit or not and that allows me to ‘favourite’ them or not.
I know that doesn’t mean they are ready to sit just that they like the look of the place and might apply in the future. I’ve also found that approaching sitters who have saved my listing has resulted in a sit being accepted by them which has been lucky for us both!
I don’t use the app though only the laptop version.
Thanks Marion. Yes, I’ve done that before, kept an eye on a desired sit even though I had just missed the opportunity to apply. ( Those 5 spots go fast! ) and the host ‘re-opened’ the listing the very next day and we were able to apply and secure our first international sit, which was a 6 -week DREAM sit with the cutest and sweetest dog in London!
But in this case, it is a matter of not being able to communicate with an HO for a potential 2 month sit because we’ve already accepted a rare, 0 pets, house only sit in the same city.
