Almost two years ago, we were housesitting in Athens Greece.
Opportunistically, we got tickets to see Mario Frangoulis and Athens Philharmonia Orchestra playing at the Acropolis. Wow, what a stunning setting and a memorable experience.
I just returned from a sit in Dublin this July where I saw "Riverdance 30 - the new generation which celebrates 30 years of the dance show started by Michael. Flatley. I had done two previous sits for the same homeowners seven and nine years ago so this was my third time seeing the show which I absolutely love. Being a dancer myself, I know that a dancer’s life ends around 35 so the dancers on this production ranged from teenagers to about 35 - terrific show!
I saw Riverdance it seems two decades ago or so. I took tap dance as a kid and periodically on and off as an adult so appreciate those difficult steps. What type of dance do you do?
Hi SeniorSitter1 - I always wanted to take tap dance lessons but never did. I used to do Irish dancing myself as I’m originally from Dublin. I’ve been doing Salsa and Bachata for about sixteen years.
Earlier this year, in Vancouver BC, we attended a wonderful performance of ‘Come From Away’. It is a warm-hearted, shoe-tapping and culture-entertaining musical that tells the story of a small Canadian Atlantic community (Gander NS) that collectively provided emergency assistance to thousands of US & International airline travelers that were diverted there following the 9/11 terrorist attacks. This musical also recently toured the UK.
That looks wonderful @GotYourBack . I saw the Broadway production of Come From Away, filmed live, on Apple TV a few years ago at a sit. A great tribute to that very giving, very caring Newfoundland community.
I love watching Irish dancing on YouTube.
@GotYourBack It’s also been in Australia a few years ago and was excellent.
I love to travel to see a concert (rock and metal mostly)! For a while, I used to live in a small country with not much going on and regularly booked weekend getaways to other European cities to see a band I like or even do a whole festival weekend. At the moment I live in London with no shortage of events. However, my last weekend trip was to Norway to see a band in their hometown, and I will make a little “detour” while visiting friends and family for Christmas in my home country to see a band in another town. Especially as a solo traveller, I think it’s so much fun to have an evening planned out during a trip and then enjoy the usual sightseeing “on the side”. The thrill of finding the venue and seeing how fans in other countries react to a band always adds to the experience for me.
Yes, I love that aspect of it too. I went to see Roxette in their home country Sweden last summer. It was so awesome that I will now go and see another Swedish singer in Stockholm in November.
So, when people said “Don’t Go!” you ignored them?
You could say that ![]()
