@Windtalker that’s very kind of you …

This is something we initiated in March when the pandemic first hit our community hard. We opened it up to members who were able to offer completely independent accommodation because no one had any idea how long the individual member’s need would be.

Many full time sitters, without a home base, needed long term accommodation which may still be the case we hope not but the situation changes constantly.

There would be a number of aspects to consider so that any potential arrangement would be the right solution for everyone involved.

We can too welcome sitters who would have plans torn away by lockdown. A bedroom for 2, in the south of France for sitters registered on THS .

@Angela-CommunityManager: do you have an idea of the % of full-time travelling sitters on THS ?

No personal we don’t
We go by our feelings .
There must be a choice of who you can help.
Also within your area.
You wouldn’t let an animal strave.
Why not help fellow human beings.
Importance of today is who gave them a( bed).

My pal just rang me
She is a sitter the same as us.
Ho contacted her and told her that he was arriving home
6 days early.
My pal is stuck,as in Northern Ireland there is a curfew.
That is in force from 8.00 till 6.00 am.
If she can’t get back in time she will be fined.
There is limited transport in the area
Because of Cov19.
Just don’t know what to say to her.
Any suggestions?
We our in a totally different area so can’t help

Can’t the owners let her stay in their home ?

No
He his asked her to leave before his arrival
The reason for return( jet lag)
Doesn’t want to start work on the( Monday to tired.)
To me its totally unacceptable.
Should have been thought out prior to the trip.

Sounds completely unacceptable. He should really have to pay at least one nights accom for the sitter if they are forced to leave.

So glad she will be alright.
Think with the situation now.
Maybe we should all be looking at other ways to get back home.
We our staying put just travel by car .

It would be amazing if there was some way to link up full time sitters to someone with accommodation that they would be willing to rent out.
We have booked an Airbnb until the end of January but are now looking for something for February and everything on Airbnb is so expensive.

Unbelievably expensive isn’t it?

I think that many people who were renting out extra bedrooms through Airbnb are no longer doing that because of Covid risks and the extra precautions regarding cleaning rentals are also driving up prices. Would it make sense to start a thread called “emergency accommodations needed”. The sitter could put down dates needed, acceptable locations, how many bedrooms needed and budget range, etc. If anyone on the board knows of something suitable, they could help them

I think it is an excellent idea. Sometimes we read about someone in need but we do not know in which part of the world they are.
