Agree. We have been in that same position. The owners weren’t halfway around world and understood the pet was going downhill. I prayed many prayers he survived until their return. I mentioned this to one of our other clients on TH and she thought the people shouldn’t have put us in that position. Putting a pet down is merciful when there is nothing more that can be done for the pet. I like it when our pet owners have a credit card on file with the vet. Then it takes this question of financial responsibility off the sitter.
Somehow the purpose of TH has been lost. The housesitter should be able to visit a place where they can do fun things in the area. If you are caring for a sick pet, then that care should be at the expense of the pet owner or take to a relative or friend. I suppose now with people working remote that are housesitting it is a good trade off. I hope all works out, tricky situation.
