Expect nothing, accept everything

Weve been sitting now for almost 4 years and have received many thank you gifts from home hosts.

We never expect one, but do appreciate small tokens of appreciation when offered.

This one blew our socks off!!

After completing a UK sit a short while ago, we recieved this message from the home host…

Well, thank YOU!!!:heart: If you ever fancy a trip to countryside Sweden, you are more than welcome to stay at my house there - it’s a residential property rather than an idyllic cabin in the woods but it’s a tiny village in a beautiful spot. All you’d need to do is either pick up a key from me or my parents could meet you there. No pet to look after. We’re there frequently but aside from a solid block mid-June to early September, there are lots of weeks throughout the year when it’s empty. Has everything you need. Serious offer so if it takes your fancy in the future, the nearest airport is Oslo. Public transport rubbish so you’d need a hire car. Anyway, there it is. Sending photos for reference. Obviously free to stay, my way of saying thank you. Xx

And you so rightly deserve this @Colin. Even though we do this for pleasure and because we want to, expecting nothing, it’s lovely to receive something in appreciation. Now who’s this owner we all want to sit for?? :joy:

Ich bin beeindruckt @Colin, was für eine wunderbare Wertschätzung des Hosts, euch in sein ländliches Wohnhaus in Schweden einzuladen. Großartig.

Well done Colin.
We had a similar offer after a month longsit. They offered a villa in Spain but we would have to hire a car.
We felt it was a bribe as their dogs were hard work and we had no intention of returning to this sitting
Sure enough, they invited us back. If we had taken up the offer of the villa then we could hardly have declined the sitting
Hopefully yours will work out

What wonderful generosity (well deserved, I suspect)!

What a fabulous and generous offer @Colin. It is such a great feeling to know that your efforts have been appreciated.

One of our very first sits was for a lovely couple and cocker spaniel in the Peak District UK. On our first visit and before we even sat for them they said feel free to invite friends or family. They came off the site and plan their breaks around our availability and have offered us their penthouse apartment elsewhere in the UK and villa in the South of France (car included) and no pet care.

We still sit for them and are off there again in two weeks. They are so appreciative and it feels like a home from home.

You hear so many horror stories on the forum but there are some great connections and experiences happening all the time. We take the rough with the smooth but in our experience there is definitely more good than bad.

@Itchyfeet

I once went to ikea one Sunday afternoon for a Billy Bookcase and it took me until Wednesday to find my way out - surely that makes me a psudo Swede.

ät din hatt !

@Smiley , We are committed time-wise for this year but neither of us has been to Sweden before so hope to take them up on their offer during 2025 :grinning:

We have a similar standing offer for a flat on the water in Scotland complete with a guide filled with tips about where to go and what to do in the area. (Our sit was in Vancouver, BC, Canada.) The flat is used by the owner periodically and made available to friends and family. Apparently, we qualify!

You sound as grateful as we feel.

This has also happened to us twice. Both times in USA.
Five days in a beautiful cabin near Moab in the most beautiful part of Utah. We had just completed a three week sit in Colorado with their fantastic dog. And after our sit in Alaska we stayed in their “winter “ home for a week. No strings, but I would return to either sit anytime. Hosts generosity blows me away sometimes.
