Feedback on My Profile, Please!

Hi,

I have revamped my profile based on some fabulous suggestions from members, and would like some feedback on my new and improved profile.

Thank you in advance!

Hello again, good work on adding some of that extra info. I still think a picture of Ziggy as your cover photo would be a stronger draw. Where does he sleep & what time does he wake up could be added? When you post multiple sits, it can be very hard to manage logistically as you could suddenly have 30 applicants to filter. Also, one and two night THS stays are very hard to fill unless you’re super lucky with a local sitter who likes escaping their family/roommates for a night or two. It’s a lot of work to get organised to come and sit for free for a dog you don’t know. Might be worth taking those two dates off and looking for a paid sitter & then you also only have four to manage. Might be also good to post on a local FB page to see if there’s a regular sitter that Ziggy would appeal to. Am sure you’ll get some more tips from this community too. #bestofluck

I agree with @Cuttlefish
Short breaks can be more difficult to find a sitter . However, your hot tub could be a big incentive. Take a photo of that in operation ( not with cover on ) . Say that the sitter won’t need to wash the bedding at the end of the sit . Just chill out with Ziggy .

Shorten the title , but mention the hot tub .

I’m a sitter I think it looks great. You put how long he can be left home alone, transportation near by, walks , you put about him being anxious. You filled out the amenities which some don’t, I think it’s all good.

I really liked your listing it’s nice and friendly and genuine, and Ziggy sounds lovely. Unfortunately we’re not currently looking to sit in the USA, but wish you well. Best wishes.

I don’t live in USA, and have no desire to travel there currently, (despite having a great holiday in 5 states last September, pre election), but what would put me off is the amount of indoor plants (think greenfly, etc) and the responsibility of tending so many plants outdoors too. Not for me. #Here for the pets only.

There is so much to do and see in your area, I know you could list things for days, but maybe mention some highlights about that area. Georgetown and Old Town Alexandria were favorites of mine when I visited. Rock Creek Park is definitely a gem…so pretty in there with many trails, which you mention. And all the museums to visit, etc. You folks are locals, so list some of your favorite places that maybe a traveler would not know of or be aware of.

I don’t sit dogs myself, but I do know Chevy Chase — and wow, you’re underselling it! In my opinion it’s one of the very best neighborhoods in or around DC, with the perfect balance of relaxed suburbia and easy access to the city. If you put on your “tourist info” hat and really highlight what makes Chevy Chase so special, you’ll attract a lot more applicants. Sitters who don’t know DC won’t automatically realize what a gem your location is.

Some sitter-friendly points worth emphasizing:

  • No car needed. Chevy Chase is well connected by public transport, and it’s a quick trip into downtown DC.

  • Safe and welcoming. It’s known as one of the safest neighborhoods in DC, which gives sitters real peace of mind.

  • Parking is a rarity in DC. If you have parking at the house, definitely call that out — it’s a huge plus.

  • Bethesda nearby. This is a foodie destination with tons of dining and things to do.

  • Easy access to airports. Multiple options, and with Metro right there, sitters can manage easily without taxis or rideshares. (Listing your nearest Metro stop would be super helpful!)

In other words, your sit is perfect for anyone wanting to explore DC, but your current listing doesn’t really show that yet. A little more “tourist brochure” and it will shine.

One other point — the medication detail. It’s important to be upfront that your dog takes daily medication and that you’ll explain the process to the sitter. But the way it’s worded now might scare off otherwise great applicants. Something like “He takes daily medication — I’ll walk you through the simple process during our call” sounds reassuring and clear. You can always explain in more detail once you’re talking to someone, but you don’t want to lose applicants at the first glance by making it sound like a constant struggle.

As someone who prefers public transportation – especially in the DC area, I would want more specific information simply stated eg: “We are about a 10 minute walk to a bus and then 30 minute metro ride to Kramer Books.” You can also uber it to the metro for about $X.

The medication issue could be turn off for many sitters and that’s fine because you need someone who could do it, but I would want more details about how you do it. Do sitters need to open the dogs jaw? Do you use pill putty? With out last dog, we could sneak the pill into her wet food and just check to make sure she took it.

There are so many ways that compounding pharmacies can deliver most medications that there might be an easier way for you, your dog, and potential sitters.

I really feel there is a piece not being said that should be said about other dogs and not walking. I might find that off-putting. Then there is cleaning the poop in the back yard.

The final thing I notice is all the dates including some pretty far off. The one nighter might be difficult with THS. If you can, add a night or do something else. I would not post beyond November for now.

My limited experience applying to multi-dates has been that not all the dates are real, so I avoid them.

Thank you! I totally took your words about Chevy Chase. Appreciate the time and effort!

Thank you!

Thanks for the advice. I thought people would want to make their plans early, so I would post all my dates in advance. They are set in stone because I already have plane tickets.

Nevermind! I was responding to another post!
