Five Tips For New Forum Members

Hello, and welcome to the Trusted Housesitters Forum!

We know that joining an online community can be both exciting and overwhelming, but you’re not alone! Here are some tips to help you get started.

What you’ll find here on the Forum is a place where our members (and future members) help each other grow, solve problems, and share experiences. Whether you’re here to ask questions, offer advice, or just explore what your fellow sitters and/owners are talking about, your participation in conversations strengthens the community as a whole.

To help ease you into using the Forum, here are five tips to help you make the most of your time here:

Create a Forum account

By creating a Forum account, you will be able to participate fully in the Forum, whether that’s starting new topics or replying to existing topics. Actively taking part in conversations helps you get to know other members, and it helps them (and the Forum team!) get to know you too.

Search before posting

The Forum has been around for many years now, so there’s a good chance someone has already asked a question you need to know the answer to! We recommend using the search bar at the top of the web page to type in a few words e.g. “lounge passes”. This will bring up a list of topics for you to browse through.

Start a new discussion

If you can’t find the answer to your question, or if you think you need advice specific to your situation, you can start a new discussion. Keep your posts clear, and add as much context as you can, so that you can get the most out of anyone who responds to you. While the Forum team will help out where they can, the majority of the support you’ll receive comes from fellow Trusted Housesitters members. We recommend engaging with the people who reply to your post, whether to clarify information or simply express your gratitude for any helpful advice you receive.

Join the conversation

There’s lots to talk about here, whether it’s about pet sitting or fun off-topic posts. We’d love to hear about your pet sitting experiences, whether you’re a sitter, owner, or just getting started, especially when there’s pet photos involved! You can also introduce yourself here!

Choose accepted solutions

If someone replied to your topic and their support was particularly helpful, you can acknowledge that by choosing their reply as the “accepted solution” by clicking on the little box under the reply, which highlights that reply as the best answer.

What next?

Here’s a few suggestions on where to start. There’s lots to read through, or if you need help from the Community, you can post a question of your own!
