As a sitter, I don’t expect anything but it’s such a nice welcoming gesture when a homeowner leaves a bottle of wine or a little treat and I’ve been left a gift card to a nice pub that was in the homeowner’s building. I usually leave a little homemade treat for the homeowners as I enjoy baking and that’s always been appreciated by them.

I have never left anything, except happy pets and a clean house. But I have received baskets of goodies or chocolates. And once, flowers and some cash, another time, they left quite a bit of cash, but I thought that was for emergencies. No, it was just they were appreciative that I was willing to sit in winter in rural MI.
