Poor girl. Must’ve been traumatic for her. So glad she’s been found.

i was wondering how she ended up on the island and managed to get lost. Found these details in the story below:

People have been trying to find Valerie since she went missing in November 2023, when her owners, New South Wales couple Georgia Gardner and Josh Fishlock, were holidaying at Stokes Bay – home to one of Australia’s best beaches but also farmland and dense scrub.

Valerie escaped from her pen at their campsite at Stokes Bay before running into the scrub. The pair searched for her with the help of locals but to no avail. <

@Maggie8K yes she thought she was simply escaping from her owners for a quick runaround discovery game but obviously got lost in the dense bushland of Kangaroo Island. Poor little thing, so glad the rescue centre knew the appropriate way to eventually catch her. Such a beautiful story for, as you say, a traumatic experience for the little darling :folded_hands:

Haha, what a fun way to celebrate! It sounds like Valerie had a blast, and I love the idea of an air tag—would definitely make sure she never misses out on any adventures. Definitely a smart sausage in action! Who knew sausages could be so clever?

Apparently they were used for hunting Badgers! So should be able to take care of themselves! Respect for our short and long who can stand tall!

Finally, collected by the owners, in the car and on her way home. After 17 months lost in the wilderness, she put ON a few kgs not lost them. Apparently it is all muscle from her time surviving in the bush. All is good in the world - well, nearly, could be better  What a beautiful ending :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Ziggy Apparently she was in such good condition they are now thinking someone had adopted her and fed and watered her so well.. maybe she wasn’t such a hard working survival heroine on Kangaroo Island but just a very pampered Joey!
Who puts on weight in a survival story, unless locked up in a cake shop? Ha Ha!
I know it isn’t good to publish a lady’s weight gain but Valerie put on 1.8 kg to her 4 kg frame!
“ she struggled to get back into her harness”
Kangarla, the local charity operating on the island has been accused of milking the survival story, not responding to questions about how much money has been raised by donations, mainly from overseas….
Valerie needed time to decompress and adjust before reuniting with her family. She very quickly resumed adorable pet mode!
Valerie will travel back to Albury, to her “best friend” Lucy, a rescue cat, red heeler Mason and the family’s new Dachshund, Dorothy. She will be crate trained and put on a raw food diet , “ considering her incredible condition when she was found.”
Maybe she was on Christmas Island, surrounded by mince pies?

@Highfive I bet she would absolutely relish some mince pies after living off bush tucker for so long  Interesting theory about someone adopting her but as she was so hard to catch by the wildlife people, I don’t believe that would have been the case. Maybe someone did see her though and put food and water out for her. Guess we’ll never know
