Be aware that if a sitter has done sits, but the host/owner did not leave a review, there will be no visible trace of the sit on the sitterās profile.
The insistence of using only the THS messaging system leads me to believe that this sitter has perhaps done a previous sit, had a bad experience, and the host did not leave a review.
I wonder if you talked to someone in customer service at THS, if they would verify that the sitter has or has not done any sits yet.

THS suggest using the inbox so itās not unusual for a sitter to suggest it also .

Sounds like you have received some great advice. We concur with guidance from @Silversitters - irrespective of THS terms then they cannot force you to have a housesitter in your home.
This seems a truly lamentable mindset to start a housesit. Heck, our username āgotyourbackā is precisely due to a mindset that pet parents need not worry about their property or pet(s) during their absence. We strive to let pet parents revel in their time away.
Irrespective of your actions - and weād consider that you cancel housesit - then there seem some high value learnings from the experience. Due diligence prior to offering/accepting is very important - for both parties. Cutting corners can increase risk of bad outcomes.
