Hilarious šŸ˜‚

Sitters asked less than a week before the sit if I could make another room available for family to stay. I reluctantly agreed but went out of my way for them, only to have them review my house as ā€œsmallā€ :joy::joy: and drop a star on accuracy of listing :person_shrugging:

Arrrrghhhhhhh, it’s worse than that. I’ve just checked out your profile @Wend . I don’t think you (or them) realise, but they’ve marked you as 1 star overall… that’s 1 out of 5 overall, which obviously must not have been their intention, because they rated you 5/5 in 4 out of the 5 categories. So pop them a message and ask them if they had made an error, I’m very sure by their words that they didn’t mean to at all. They need to contact @support straight away and say they made an error in their marking.

It’s so easy to hit the button too soon. Check out your profile and scroll down to their review, you’ll see what I mean.

I really don’t want to contact them, I gave them a very generous 4 star review, go have a read if you like. It’s obvious to anyone looking at their review that the one star overall is not accurate. Thanks for your response though

I agree that anyone looking at your profile will see it’s an outlier, even if they don’t click to see the details.

Your home looks beautiful!

We would personally click in to read it properly, if we noticed 1 bad review among 5/5 ones, but not all sitters do (unless they’re used to the forum, which the majority aren’t)

I totally understand you don’t want to contact them. But just so you know, the below is how your profile now looks on a laptop, & even less on a mobile. There’s no sign of your lovely 5/5 scores they gave you unless someone clicks to read more.

As a sitter, if I’d hit the wrong button I’d want to know, so I could fix things, I’d feel just horrible knowing I’d left an HO looking bad for no reason. It’s obvious they loved their stay, apart from the tiny point they deducted.

I really hope they are active members on the forum, because it could really affect the number of applicants you get in the future. You’re obviously a great host, apart from the 1 small point, you’re definitely not a 1/5 host overall.

It’s obviously a mistake as besides the small comment they say nice things. Your place does not look small to me and came with a lovely pool to enjoy. Maybe they thought it was small because they had more than that one couple staying there. That was very generous of you to say yes to another couple as well. I find it interesting that they say they have 8 years experience house and pet sitting with no outside reviews. You are also their first review of theirs on TH. PP will look at the one star they gave you and no other reviews on their profile and will probably pass on them. I would.

Wow. Sorry you experienced sitters like this. They seem entitled ā€œon steroidsā€. I looked at your review of them and theirs of you. As others have said the one star was obviously an error and I would reach out to support to get them to speak to the sitter and rectify it as you don’t seem (understandably) to want to communicate with them again. Even if you don’t get it sorted we (as sitters) wouldn’t hesitate to sit for you.

Thanks :+1: it’s obvious from these comments that people will look further. I should not have ignored the red flags :slightly_frowning_face:

Every review I leave I go back and look at what it shows to make sure everything is accurate. Both on my phone and laptop because there are so many times the app isn’t working properly. As a sitter.

They are inexperienced sitters and it was their first review, looks worse for them than it does for me. Mistake or not I’m really not bothered. We are always flooded with applications when our dates are published. I just need to be more careful next time I choose a sitter.

These sitters have taken the THS advertising slogans to new heights!

ā€œVisit Spain, bring your friends and relatives along, and feel free to leave overnight to visit nearby cities!ā€

Obviously, when a sitter has been chosen to stay in a home, this does NOT mean that the sitter can then have their family or friends tend to the house and pets while the sitter goes sightseeing!!

Wendy, you seem like a very easygoing person, but this is really taking advantage on so many levels. It might help to place in your profile ā€œno guests.ā€ Then, if a sitter is cheeky enough to ask, you can refer them back to your profile/listing.

Great idea thanks. That really did make me laugh :joy::joy::joy::joy:

It amazes me when reading reviews in so many places, that even with other examples to go by, how many people think one star is a top rating. As in ā€œNumber 1ā€. That might be what they did.

I’d say you were generous in your rating of them, given that they wanted to bring guests and then b—– off and leave your pets with someone you hadn’t met. At least you got it sorted and the pets were happy, so, that was the priority.

I think in more cases it’s just a problem of doing it too quickly and not double checking. When doing it on the phone, it’s easy to get it wrong. Some members also think the general rating is automatically done by the system.

There has also been a glitch reported on the forum where the member reviewing selects 5 stars and when they click through to the next stage the system has reverted to one star or as happened to me zero stars !

IMHO, the lack of an ā€˜OK’ button that confirms the choice of stars (as is the case with the following individual categories) is the reason for so many accidental ā€œclicksā€. An unintentional rating is just waiting to happen when people so much as browse the star options, and once that unintentional choice is ā€œmadeā€, there is no way to go back and correct it.

This is why I am super cautious during the first overall rating. Should that happen to me, I’d stop my review and contact support right away.

In the US, companies ask you often to rate services. 5 means best and 1 means terrible. I don’t remember what country I read they are from but if from the US they definitely know what 1 means.

I left a 1 star review by mistake early on. The way the shading of the stars looked, I thought I was leaving 5. I noticed it as soon as the review was posted, asked THS to fix it and they did, within a day.

Anyway, there wasn’t a specific glitch, it just wasn’t obvious what level of stars was selected. I now know what to look for.
