Homeowners not completing Amenities section

Question for homeowners: why would you leave the Amenities section COMPLETELY blank? Considering the importance of wi-fi when traveling, working remotely, in the case of emergency, and when communicating with your family AND the homeowner, this seems like an amenity you’d want sitters to know you have (assuming you have it). And yet, I keep seeing sits with NOTHING under the amenities section.

It’s a relatively new feature. Any owners who completed their profile before it existed may not see it unless they go in to edit it which they may not need to do when adding new dates and so it stays blank.
Similarly when a listing has the title “Urgent Christmas Sit” and they’re listing dates for August 3 months ahead.

I think, but not sure this is true, that as that section is a relatively new feature older listings which predate it would not have been asked to complete it in the first place and those HOs may still not be aware it’s there. Someone correct me if I am wrong about that!

It is new so unless the HO goes into the home profile and scrolls through all the sections they won’t see it. If there’s a sit you apply for and it’s missing, you might just mention to the HO that you saw it wasn’t filled out & wanted to know what the amenities where.

Thanks everyone who responded. Those answers make perfect sense!

You are asking this question in the forum. A tiny percentage of members come here and will see this. I think the answer may be that the section is relatively new and like many add on things, people miss the memo and don’t really think about using it or aren’t that aware of it.

I have a combined membership. I did take advantage of filling in the amenities section when I noticed it. I don’t remember receiving an email that it existed. I also noted changes – less welcome in my sitter’s profile like the addition of the little photos of pets you’ve cared for – which I’ve left blank as I think it’s kind of busy. I also was annoyed when they switched “experience” and “about” and just integrated “about” into experience.

I don’t think THS is very good at guiding people into using the tools they have. They also introduce changes without really informing people – or if they are informing people maybe rather than sending stuff out in emails, they should use their own internal system or have an easy – What’s New? page you could get to when you sign on.

Everyone is right on why they are not completed. I barely look at them when reviewing sit options. If someone has completed it the list is so long it’s kind of annoying. I’m not looking at an AirBnB (which it feels like now); I’m looking at a lived-in home and don’t expect to ever be missing things like bedding and pillows. Highlights like WiFi are critical but the list now is far too detailed IMO. (Thanks, I’ve been wanting to say that for a while!)

@lifephasenext I"ve realised that I usually skim through the Amenities section, just looking at 2 or 3 from the list.

We sit as a family if 3 or 4, so number and type of beds is useful to understand if there is somewhere for us all to sleep. Even then it is often unclear as the Amenities section lists each different size of bed, but not how many of each. So there may be 3 double beds, but it will just say “Double” the same as if there was just one double bed.

Washing machine is the next thing I look for. Useful for after tjose muddy UK dog aalks., or just as a parent of boys!

Parking, as we drive to sits.

I wonder what are the Amenities other sitters look for first?

Obviously the amenities are not the most important thing when choosing a sit, but depending on your needs, have to be considered. For me, wi-fi for work, & then, if the sit isn’t accessible by public transportation: Use of a Vehicle. I hate that I have to consider that one (especially considering even I’m not comfortable loaning out my car to others, & the insurance & liability laws make it difficult in some countries), but I spent over $1k for a rental car for a one month long sit last year, & that’s just not a sustainable expense. After that, if I’m traveling with my spouse, the bed.

Why does THS not provide BEDROOM under AMENITIES. It is a key factor after meeting owners and pets for us!

Those that are truly interested do a full review … and come to the Forum.

Not sure what you mean? @Berna this is what we see as sitters

I think what @Berna means is that “bedroom” comes by the default and then owners add type of bed, etc. In reality, we may find the bed (or even sofa bed) is in an office, living room or some other space not typically a bedroom. Sometimes owners specify that in the home and location section but others don’t.
