Many of us sitters like to plan well in advance for holiday travel as it is more expensive than non holiday travel.
If you are hoping to land sitters for holidays like Thanksgiving (US HO’s), please don’t delay in posting your dates!
That sounds like you are considering sitting at Thanksgiving. I am always amazed at how late some HO’s leave it before creating their dates on THS for major holidays when they already seem to know what their plans are. They would have a much MUCH larger selection of sitters to pick from (therefore a higher chance of finding their perfect sitter) if they posted their dates as soon as their plans are set in stone.
We’ve been booked for our New Year sit since January (so 11 months ahead of time) and our furthest ahead sit is Oct 2025.
Many of the sitters on THS have families of their own who they want to visit at holiday times, so they make their plans well in advance (our family lives near our New Year sit). And other sitters want to naturally plan ahead for the holidays. Not all of us sitters arrange our life just a couple of months ahead of time.
Indeed. I am more the couple-of-weeks type
This is a great reminder. We have already secured sitters for our Thanksgiving request and are currently working on an Oct. sit. I try to post ours as far in advance as possible.
I would never house/pet sit over Guy Fawkes night/weekends in the UK.
I am amazed at how late people post their listings looking for a sitter for holidays.
Last year there were tons posted late October and early November. I realize people don’t all plan way ahead but wow. There were so many who seemed like they weren’t going to land a sitter bc it was so late!
We are heading to California (from NYState) late Oct and early November for a sit and an event and we KNOW there will be people looking for Thanksgiving sitters but we can’t wait until Sept or Oct to book.
I’d hate to get our flights to come home mid November only to see a bunch of HOs needing sitters after we’ve left.
I’m definitely looking ahead already.
I’m booked for a sit over part of the Christmas/New Year’s holiday break here in the U.S. and am keeping my eyes peeled for other sitting opportunities.
I also have alerts set for sits during March 2025 Spring Break!
