Hosts: what made you fall in love with housesitting?

Hello everyone!

Here at TrustedHousesitters, we know housesitting is a real win-win for you, your pets and your sitter. For some, the first step can feel huge!

After being inspired by some recent discussions, I wanted to ask you to think back to when you first became a host… was there anything you were a little unsure about? If so, how did that change? Was it seeing how happy your pet was? Getting to know your sitter… or something else?

Whatever it was for you, we’d love to hear your story in the replies!

Kitchen Access to make my own meals. The variety of exploring new spaces. Getting away from the drab and cost associated with plain white hotel sheets.

Thanks for your response @CatHealer  has there been a particularly memorable sit for you so far?

o yea - lots of them. I had one cat with particularly bad kidney disease, he was vomiting this yellow discharge, had poor appetite, and had trouble walking, mostly slept all day with low energy.

By the time I left his vomit was clear, and he even bounced around outside with the other cats, he ate his full plate without needing to be spoon-fed.

As a host, the first time we tried THS we were unsure if anyone would be interested in staying our home! We are not a luxury beachfront property so we thought why would anyone want to holiday here? We were pleasantly surprised when people did!

In addition to pets getting great care in the home, and meeting great sitters/people, we also saw our home and location through ‘fresh’ eyes again - what sitters said they enjoyed the most about our home and location were some of the same things that lead us to make a home here over a decade ago - the quiet, safe location and beautiful natural space around us. While still having all the modern shopping conveniences and amenities of a city. We revised our listing over time to focus more on that and less on the traditional tourist things people do here!

Hello everyone

As a host, we have met a wide variety of people and almost always enjoyed wide-ranging conversations over dinner—both the night before we left and upon our return. It’s very pleasant to talk about our lives and our countries.

As pet sitters, we have always encountered welcoming people who trusted us, and—above all—adorable, endearing animals (I always tear up when I have to leave them).:grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

We joined at back end of Covid, couldn’t go abroad so gave THS a try, my husband wasn’t keen however, after a couple of sits he loved it. Seeing lots of England we’d never been to plus 3 sits in France. Been fortunate done 50 sits and practically all been great. But due to booking fees have turned off auto-renew. It’s been good.
