How can I pause membership?

Correct, while on pause, you can’t access any reviews, past sit history etc. So if you need a longer break, then rather cancel and rejoin in a year or two, your history should then become available on renewal. I think I’ve read on here it will be available for max 2 years, then it will be deleted. So plan ahead and make screenshots of all your reviews and past sits before you pause/cancel, as the only way to view these again is to join for another year.

Am I right in thinking that one advantage of auto renewal is that you freeze a more advantageous cost for the THS deal? I thought by going along with the auto renewal deal meant I was paying less for the basic package than if I rejoined later at some point? Am I right about this?
I also thought of continuing with the basic deal and upgrading at the Black Friday stage to get the 50% reduction on an upgrade.. then my renewal date changes to Black Friday day! Win win!
Or am I in a fool’s paradise?

@Highfive Im a little confused with your thoughts lol but the Black Friday deals only upgrades your current plan to the end of your current membership plan date. That’s what it said when I looked to do it on the last Black Friday sale. But as mine is up for renewal in March, it wasn’t worth it. The upgraded price was cheap, because it only took me to March, then from March it would have renewed at the normal higher price. So effectively I was going to get three months of my EXISTING membership time upgraded from Basic to Premium for very little cost, then from March, my normal due date for renewal, the upgraded rate would apply. Your basic plan will stay the same (for now lol) regardless of if you stay on it now, upgrade to premium for the remainder of your membership term on a sale day, then go back to a basic plan. Your thoughts would depend on how much time you have left on your current plan when the BF deal comes around. Does that make sense? Is that what you meant? :face_with_spiral_eyes::joy:

I was going to say, I wonder, given the apparent exodus of members, if TH will delete all the account information from those who cancel now. But then I read your next post about “legal requirement”. So… .
I bet they’d like to, though… :eyes:

My renewal is in January, I’ve already had a reminder from THS about it being automatic. This change has made me get my skates on! I’ve arranged 8 sits for next year, confirmed so shouldn’t pay the new levy on those!
So that’s£80.00 saved? I’m
a pensioner and enjoy the luxury of not charging for my services but have to watch others charging my clients for theirs! It’s rather galling also having this charge hoisted on me. Frankly when there is a scarcity of sitters this is a disincentive to go full on pet sitting! I’m lining others’ pockets and feel abused.
I’m here for the pets but let’s not get petty!

@Highfive you are in a good position then

Only because I work hard at it and people like what I do. Why should THS get more money? I’m already a great advocate and have helped their business flourish by being responsible and decent. Maybe a sliding scale for the more sits you do the less you pay or 5 star financial
Bonus scheme? What’s in it for the sloggers? The mediocre seem to be thriving too by all accounts!
Motivation flourishes when one feels supported by the management and the customers. Frankly they don’t give a damn, or so it appears by this new edict.
Marketing is very important for thriving in a business that has many rivals in competition. I can’t blame people looking elsewhere. My wife already is disenchanted and I can so understand why. But I think she likes me out the house and chaperoned lol.
Seriously it’s time for THS to reflect long and hard.
I came and enrolled with Great Expectations!
When I joined THS the management felt like Our Mutual Friend.
Hard Times ahead for all, I fear.
Bleak Housesitters-dot-com has a certain ring.

On Trust Pilot THS have said that it’s been introduced so that those that do more sits pay more .. so I can’t see them reducing the fee -

I’ve noticed that the terms say that they can have special promotions on the booking fee .

Maybe we can expect to see offers of 3 for 2 = a “free sit” every time you complete 2 or similar “offers” in the future ?

I know if you introduce new people you get some discount but seriously, it’s harder to recommend this jamboree to friends and family.
People already think I’m crazy doing it myself!

Related issue…if I turn off auto renewal does THS cancel my membership? The reason I’m asking is that on the membership page where this can be done the header says “We’re sorry to see you leave.” This made me nervous so I did not turn off the auto renew, Thanks in advance for any guidance.

I mean, we could do a whole thread of book titles for how this story’s going.
Or maybe song lyrics.
