How can I pause membership?

I recently received my renewal email and there was a sentence that I could “pause at any time” under membership services. My husband and I use TH only infrequently and I don’t anticipate using for most of the year–but I can find no where that allows a pause vs a cancellation.

Go into your account and change the renewal option to no longer automatic, it gives you the option to pause for 3 mths.

@BonnyinBrighton that option to pause for three months doesn’t allow any access to your account at all and at the end of that three months, your acct is automatically renewed so there really isn’t any point in doing it. Pause three months, no access at all and then they renew automatically. Might as well just cancel now and rejoin if they wanted to. A member doesn’t get to pause then start again when they feel like it, as @ClovesC says they don’t use much so not renewing is best option IMO.

Does that mean you can’t after 3 mths simply cancel? They can’t force you to renew at that point…

You can still cancel auto renew after the three months pause but what’s the point in holding onto the previous three months if you aren’t going to use those three months? You can’t access your account, apply for or advertise sits, you are locked out of the site. The smart thing to do is simply not auto renew to begin then when you are ready to start sitting/listing again, you simply rejoin. All your previous profile, reviews etc etc are still there. What the 3 months pause is, is simply a sales tactic to get members to not cancel auto renew first time on the off chance they will forget to cancel auto renew the second time. In this particular case for @ClovesC there is zero benefit for them to pause, they should simply stop the original auto renew, not take the three months pause option, then rejoin when they are ready. This is a business tactic, offering a three months pause, but there really is no benefit to it as you are still an inactive member for those three months.

So wait, if you turn off auto-renew and then don’t either manually renew or turn it on again, you’re locked out of everything?

Yes, when your membership is due. When not a fully paid up member, you are completely locked out

Is it like audible where you can only pause it once in 12 mths?

Yes because you only have the pause option for that initial three months then that’s it. So that notice you get when you go to cancel auto renew gives you two options. “Cancel auto renew now.” Or “Pause membership then automatically renews in three months”. So if you choose to automatically renew then you obviously get another twelve months membership which you CAN’T pause until your next renewal is due a year later. Then the cycle begins again

This is helpful to know. Thank you. Much to ponder atm.

Thank you I think that even three months Pause would be better than nothing! I don’t want to leave it entirely, all our reviews etc., but this sounds like a good option .

You said that reviews are still there, like sayif you cancel and renew after a year?

But @ClovesC you don’t lose anything! Everything on your profile, your reviews, everything that you have now is still there for at least the next two years. Nothing is lost. When you renew, everything is still there the same as it was before you didn’t renew. You don’t lose any of anything! When you rejoin, you start fresh from whatever date you restart and EVERYTHING is there like it was before. You have zero loss

Yes, it’s ALL still there, everything. For at least two years, that’s a legal requirement. Myself, hundreds others have done it heaps

Wait I just want to make sure I’m being clear, if I cancel, not suspend, my profile will still be there for two years? Sorry if I’m a little fuzzy I have the flu right now.

Yes, correct. It will still be there. If you really, really want to check my information, you can contact support@trustrfhousesitters.com and they will confirm what I have said. Good luck

Actually, a small update, as I was just in the same position. I was also under the impression that it will auto renew after the 3-month pause, because that is what their email seems to indicate. And when I log on in the usual way, there seems to be no way to access your ‘account settings’, it just prompts you to renew. HOWEVER, there is a link in that ‘pause e-mail’ that takes you (nearly directly) to your settings where you can then turn off auto-renew within your 3 month pause period. Have a try.

Yes, that is correct, I went in there a few days ago to cancel my auto renew and the option. But if you choose to use the pause option you still lose access to your entire account during the three months pause so in this particular case for @ClovesC who won’t be needing to use their account for some time, if at all, there is no point pausing. It is way easier and probably cheaper, to simply rejoin when they are ready.
