Renewal offer on lapsed account

My sitter’s account lapsed in November. I have now received a good offer to renew. How long do I have before this expires?

@johnpatrickmarkham To get an accurate answer in writing, I suggest you email Membership Services. It’s the primary source that will give you something to fall back on. Forum members at best will just give you their opinion, and that may differ from person to person.

What is the offer @johnpatrickmarkham ?

Hmmmm…What is a “good offer” ? I didn’t realise there were anything but three standard levels & rates.

I’m assuming that for some reason the lapse wasn’t their fault and so the original fee could be applied as if it was simply a renewal. I had this issue last year when the auto renewal didn’t kick in.

Some have reported being offered Premium membership for the price of standard

For what reason though?

I was offered Premium membership for the price of basic. Standard was actually more expensive. I paid 119€ instead of 239€.

No reason. Just to get me back after I let my membership expire.

@Newpetlover I congratulate you on getting that deal, I really mean that. BUT! I feel that on the part of THS, that is a very poor thing to do considering others have no options but to pay in full. I cancelled my auto renewal but then got a sit I had really wanted for a long time and short of cancelling that sit, I had absolutely no option but to pay the full rejoin price. I could have inconvenienced the HO to cancel then have me take it up again after renewal, with hopefully an upgrade, but I couldn’t or wouldn’t do that. So again, I applaud you getting that great offer, just goes to show how members can play the game if they want to. Not talking to you specifically!!! Every member I mean. :sparkling_heart:

Oh crikey so it’s like that horrible annual phone call I have to ‘suffer’ when our Sky/Broadband package renewal date comes up! This year the increased fee after an hour of trying to cancel suddenly became less than we’ve paid all year- and fixed for 18mths.

@BonnyinBrighton and my Paramount Prime membership I tried cancelling but was offered a half price deal to stay. No brainer! Unfortunate I can’t do this on THS.

Yes, I’m feeling rather stuck & taken advantage of atm. I already had sits booked out through April before the new fees were announced. Now I find out that you can’t cancel auto-renew with active booked sits, but if I could cancel auto-renew I’d get offered a massive discount to stay.

So I’m just as upset as others about the new terms, but now find out my (enforced) loyalty is also costing me an extra $100.

Not the best way to make your members feel appreciated.

@MerryPuppins I agree. The only thing I can say is though, looking at it from both sides, if everyone was offered this it wouldn’t be good business practice but nonetheless, had I not booked sits after membership was due, like yourself and probably many many others, I would have been offered the deal. So it does suck from our own personal point of view.

That’s exactly what it is.

It sucks from my point of view too and it’s not fair at all. I have shared my experience so that everyone knows how it works right now. I told the whole story on another thread.
I didn’t do it in order to save money (not that it makes any difference). I already was paying premium and (at this point) I was not impacted by booking fees but I genuinely started to lose interest after all the new changes so I just decided to cancel my membership.
I have accepted the offer just to buy myself time. I haven’t applied for or even looked at any listings after rejoining.

THS is making my user experience less and less appealing. I just don’t want to close this door out of spite and harm myself in the process. I really don’t know what I am going to do right now.

I cancelled auto renewal before getting a sit confirmed for June. What should I do? My options are to NOT renew and simply go ahead with the sit anyway- the HO is fine with this btw.

You had open appliacations before you have cancelled your auto renewal and the host was still able to confirm you after the cancellation of the renewal?
Or they picked you in a call/message and you need to renew before officially confirming the sit inside the system?

I am trying to figure out what we are able to do (and what not) in that period between switching off auto-renewal and the actual expiration of the subscription.

If I would be in your place and I would need to renew for the sit I would try to do it as close to the expiration date as possible in case I would get one of those “renewal offers”.

* Just reading into the other thread, you may actually need to let your membership expire to get the offer.

It is unclear for how long will THS offer this premium for price of basic. My guess is that it is the same as the “please stay, here is 20% off” that you can use only time (in the process of cancelling autorenewal). You can use it once. Of course if you every year have overlapping sits, you will never get it. It might also be that it is only offered during this enrollment of fees, only this year.

I find a lot of things unfair in the pricing: original members have it cheaper, black Friday offers save different amount of money depending on when your renewal is (upgrade to premium for 1 to 12 months for half price), some members having years of free memberships because of references, the new fee kicking in at renewal meaning anytime 3 to 15 months from the announcement.

I would not care if THS was not such a predatory company. I´d happily pay double if it was non-profit and into providing good service: I would not mind two tears of basic, and support, where both have the same amenities but support means that basic can be kept cheaper so that more people can afford it. Sure I like to save pennies, but it is my hate to the company that has me cancelling sits last minute if they dont let me cancel my auto renew.

One option could be to feed the system a credit card that will bounce. This way there will not be a renew, but you get to keep any sits you have agreed to. I might do that just out of pettiness… (THS does not let me pay with my card, I have tried to clear it with them -for years- and they never admit any wrong doing, so I just borrow a card of a friend when I need to pay it.) I can add my card, and then it will just bounce.

I have a do not auto renewal for March.
I have a confirmed sit for June.
Presumably if I don’t renew in March, after a couple of months I might get an offer? If I don’t I will still do the sit anyway as it’s local and if the HO is happy.
