Renewal offer on lapsed account

@BonnyinBrighton my membership also finishes in March and have a sit in June. I received a message saying as my membership expires in March, I had to either cancel the sit or auto renew. It actually switched across to reactivate auto renew without my doing it. Did you check your account/membership details to check?

What comes to the length of the offer, if the email does not say it, I doubt the customer service will. During the Black Friday, I made the dog Frank bot share the details of BF offers by pestering it. Maybe that could work?

No mine is still showing as no auto renewal.

@BonnyinBrighton Strange. I had no option but to auto renew. Glad yours is ok, no idea what’s happening. I can’t change it so I’m just moving on, I’m kinda done with the whole thing. But this is a screenshot of my membership page. I had to have auto renew on to be able to do the sits, prior it was off.

Wooow, this is interesting. I didn’t think that was even possible.

It’s frustrating though that it’s so difficult to figure out what works and what not.
Especially with all the wrong information given, like the threats that “your references will be deleted”, if you let your subscription laps, which is apparently not the case.

I think I will just need to wait it out and decide on the spot, depending on how my account will behave… With so many variables it’s difficult to decide. And as some mentioned, they can always switch up their promotions…

I’m also pretty much done, but wanted to wait until March to decide which is why I cancelled autorenewal back when the changes were made. I’ve lost trust in the organisation. I’m 51/49 at the moment to remain. A bit like Brexit tbh!

@BonnyinBrighton I did the same, was waiting until March, and I to had cancelled auto renewal before the change, but mine wouldn’t accept the sit until it was turned back on. Yep, so over it.

So you did cancel auto renewal and it didn’t let you confirm sits?

Yes, correct

I have been offered a 20% discount.

Well, I thought I had got the idea but now I don’t get it. I think it’s a bit random.

Here’s my guess:

  • You can start your membership without auto renewal and you can confirm sits beyond your membership period. If you don’t renew they won’t be covered by THS but you still can get in touch with lots of members.
  • if you have signed up with auto renewal, you aren’t allowed to cancel it if you have confirmed sits.
  • You can (I did) cancel auto renewal when there are no confirmed sits and still apply and confirm new sits but it seems you weren’t able to do this. The only difference I can think of is that at that stage I had chosen the option to have a three month lapse, after which I would be able to decide whether I wanted to continue or not. They wouldn’t charge the renewal without my confirmation but they still had the card details so that might be the difference.

Make sure it’s really applied if you choose that option. This is designed to trick people into auto renewal.

@Newpetlover I’m getting a headache thinking about it all  Late night here now so I’ll look at it all tomorrow, can’t process it anymore, I’ve had auto renew off, now I get this. Going to sleep on it. All I know is I didn’t have any options

Possibly I selected the 3 mth pause, that might explain the difference to @ziggy

^That would be interesting: you cant review when you are on a pause, so why would it let you have sits during that time.

A while ago, after the introduction of the new sit fees, I decided to turn off auto renewal of my standard membership. I checked today and without either my knowledge, or being notified auto renewal has been re-enabled. Now when I try and turn it off I get a message that I have to cancel sits scheduled for after the renewal date. Here’s what I’ve done, contacted the hosts and explained that I’m leaving the site and that in order to stop my membership from renewing automatically I have to cancel the sits. The hosts have all replied that they understand and that they are happy to proceed off platform and just use WhatsApp. Sure, neither party can leave a review, but that’s not important to either the hosts or me.

That was my first thought one of the many times I tried to cancel auto renewal. I thought I had completed the process because the message is completely misleading. It seems I had reversed the process I had initiated and remained in auto renewal mode.

It’s underhand, very sneaky and naughty, possibly deceptive and dishonest. It’s just another frustration with THS, they could and should do so much better. I can’t see how introducing sit fees is going to help, except to increase profits.

@TheEnglishFlaneur that there is exactly what happened to me and I, also, can now not turn off auto renewal.

Hmm, I really don’t like this process, when you go to cancel something, and then get lured in by different offers to stay. It’s common here in Oz, with a certain paid TV company. It’s an exhausting process of having to renegotiate every year, when you renew your membership.

I prefer things are upfront and fair for all.
