Long term THS member since March 2015, ~50 sits, however these days I’m only doing 2-3 sits a year max. Not in the least as getting suitable, urban cat-sits (mainland Europe) has become more challenging since the 5 appl rule & due to the general scarcity of such sits, esp. compared to the large number of UK sits.
With my THS membership renewal coming up soon in 2nd week of October I’ve tried various avenues over the past 8 months to earn free months. I was hoping to extend my current membership cycle till mid January ( = 3 more months), before I decide whether to stay or go after 12 years on THS due to the booking fees that would apply on renewal. I would still very much like to do a sit over Christmas though.
Now my friends, relatives, or neighbours won’t join THS - in the country where I live, people generally use other sites or options to find a petsitter.
So I’ve tried all the usual avenues, and doubled down on Facebook & other online groups as well, more than once, but still nothing: no has used my link in 2026.
Some sitters have a large reservoir of free months - anyone willing (if that’s possible) to donate 3 months to me? Thx, meow, woof!
I know you said you tried all the usual avenues, but you didn’t mention it specifically, so…Reddit? The referral thread there is where I earned hundreds of months of referrals.
It’s not possible for someone to donate months to another member - but you can pause your membership for three months so your renewal date moves on three months .
Then If you see a sit that you want to apply for you can unpause your membership at anytime
Thanks, I know, the challenge is that it would pause from 2nd week of October while I still want to do a Christmas sit before deciding on whether I ‘stay or go’ after 12 years membership.
And unpausing means paying full membership fees + booking fees. Which I’m not so sure about yet…
Donation of months doesn’t work but I did gain 2 years of free months when a fellow forum member offered to direct their contacts to my QR code which I had shared with them. I was very grateful but kept their identity confidential as requested.
The other approach is to list your QR code in posts on fb location specific community groups. I picked up free months that way too and potentially new hosts.
Thanks, I’ll try one more time. Past ~8 months the FB groups and Reddit thread and a couple of other avenues haven’t yielded anything, so here’s hoping that with 3 wks to go till end of membership, some referral magic will happen at last…
Actually, that’s not how it works, but you don’t have all the information, so let’s leave it at that. If it were that simple, everyone would be walking around with a free membership.
