You know how our furry friends have their own little ways of communicating with us? Like when your dog gives you that nudge to head outside, or the special meow your cat uses when it’s food time?.
Do you have any funny or surprising ways that a pet has grabbed your attention? I can imagine that our pet sitters have seen some pretty creative communication from pets, and I’m super curious to hear what you all have experienced, whether you’re an owner or a sitter!
Share any cute, funny, or unexpected moments when you realised a pet was trying to tell you something!
Hi @Jenny
Cats as you know all have their unique personalities. The most interesting ones I’ve encountered was my first family cat as a 10 year old called Sam. He was an indoor/outdoor cat we got from the local RSPCA and did everything on his terms. He’d run to the front door to be let out but get very upset if you opened the door and the weather was bad. He’d sit on the doorstep grumbling and then nip your ankle!
We had another cat called Amy. A rather expensive persian cat that was a bit crazy. Her favourite thing was to throw herself on her back on the polished kitchen floor and wait for someone to swirl her around. She’d purr and be happy for you to do this for hours even though it made her rather dizzy!
Lastly one of my brothers cats 18 year old Chloe will come and find you if her biscuit bowl is empty! She’ll appear and cry at you until you get up and then run and sit by said empty biscuit bowl until you’ve refilled it!!
My old boy Walter is pretty set in his ways, but I’ve recently discovered him making a new noise, which is very specifically to prompt me to dry him with his favourite microfibre towel he will not accept a normal towel, it must be a very specific microfibre one that I use for my hair, and he gets all soppy and happy when I use it. He has this face I call the “cheese face” when he’s happy - his ears go wonky, his eyes half close, and he does this kind of grin with his fangs. Such a cute little weirdo!
If I’m sitting in my recliner, my dog will walk up and rest his head on my foot if he wants attention.
On rare occasions when he’s had a bad tummy overnight, he’ll hop on our sleeping selves and let us know, not pooping indoors. He’s really good about it, sweet boy.
