How have you dealt with an awful sit?

I have started this thread for information and help that will be useful for any sitters who encounter any sit conditions that are against THS T&Cs and code of conduct.

Reading the forum some sitters have left “awful” sits ( third parties , dirty living conditions , previously undisclosed pet behaviours or excessive responsibilities ) with the support of THS member services .

Others have said that they had no help from THS when they contacted them. Other sitters have said “I can’t leave because I have no where else to go “ .

I am interested to know what was your experience?

What makes the difference in support received from THS ? Do they take certain issues like third parties living at the home more seriously than dirty homes or internal cameras or vice versa ?

Do you get more support from THS when you use the urgent support phone line rather than e-Mail
or chat bot ?

Did you have to sort it out yourself with the homeowners or did you just put up with the conditions and stay?

I didn’t say anything at the time (or any time), paralyzed by shock. Despite my instincts telling me to turn around and run, I remained silent, thinking I couldn’t back out in the last second, while the host, whom I had just met on their way out to the airport, was trying to tidy up (moving clutter from one place to another) to “make it nice for me.”

After the initial shock, I cleared a part of the kitchen counter and placed all my belongings there, including food, as the fridge was unusable and I had no intention of cleaning it. I spent the entire time (about 10 days) on the terrace overlooking the sea and surfers, which btw was quite lovely. I did not mention the state of the apartment in my review. Nor did I ask THS for any help

Looking back, was there anything in the photos in the listing that might have given the state of affairs away? Or maybe there was a lack of photos?

@SaraShann Not that I can remember, it was 2.5 years ago. Just checked, and the listing is still active. The pictures look fine. There were three sitters after me and no one mentioned the apartment itself, focusing instead on the location and balcony. The last review was published before the ratings got categorized, so no stars for cleanliness and tidiness.

Ah. Interesting. I do like the idea of the blinded reviews and perhaps that will help curtail the number of these situations.
