These alternatives work for me
if the owner permits them. I wouldn’t do alternatives against the owner’s wishes or without them knowing.
This owner only gave me the option of putting my hand directly into the mouth of a cat I don’t know, and I had to decline.

Now another owner did give me the pill-in-cheese option, which worked perfectly for me and the dog!

To manually pill a cat I’d normally sit with the cat firmly between my legs (can’t at the moment as tweaked my acl doing this last sit) then you gently prise the bottom jaw open at the side of the mouth, pop the pill in. Close the mouth, tilt the cats head back and rub under the mouth to make sure the pill is swallowed.
You should never be putting your hand in the cats mouth as that’s a recipe to get badly bit.
