Hi Been on trustedhousesitter for a few years now and am I the only one who does not have Dogs or Cats. It seems that nearly all the sitters are only interested in furry animals and we have Birds. Anyone else find this a problem ?
I love birds (hence my nickname Twitcher). Tell us more ![]()
Welcome to forum @coz8 !
I’m sure more sitters have experience with cats/dogs, but that doesn’t mean that you couldn’t find a good match for birds.
I haven’t sat birds, I would be willing to, but would need to be sure it is a good match so I can take proper care of them.
We live on the Suffolk/Norfolk border Village in a home set in about 1/2 acre garden. Been here 41 years now. We breed Canaries, and have Old age pensioners Budgies. Chickens, Ducks, Doves, and 5 Guinea pigs. That’s why I say “ I don’t have Dogs anymore now ours have passed. Cannot walk them and the birds once feed daily and checked are all done for the day. Quiet enjoyable peaceful life. ![]()
I’ve sat birds in aviaries and really enjoyed looking after them @coz8. With so many sitters on the site, there will be bird lovers too, just a smaller pool of them. Where are you located?
I can now see in your latest post you mention your location and bird breeds.
Thank you temba. Glad to be here ![]()
We’ve sat lots of birds - chooks, quails, conures and cockatiels so far. And we had ducks, turkeys and guinea fowl as kids so fully feathery friends! You’ll definitely find sitters for them. #twitchingrocks
Most of us here love all different types of animals. I would sit for birds as long as your pictures don’t show them living in a small cage. If I think they are having a good life then it would be fun to be around something other than a dog or cat. I had parakeets as a kid. You bond with every living creature. It’s most enjoyable to be around different species and learn bout their ways. As my friends mother would say, there’s a pot for every cover.
Hi @coz8 We have a sit booked for 5 weeks with only 5 rescue hens! One reason we chose it was to have a break from the restrictions of a dog sit. And ofcourse it looks like a gorgeous countryside sit. A place to relax and unwind.
I love the sound of your bird sit and I’m sure plenty of others will be attracted too! Just make sure you provide lots of care instructions so everything runs smoothly.
I love birds. Would love to sit for them more often but not many bird sits come up that suit me. My second ever sit here was with a budgie. She was wonderful.
I have done sits with chickens and ducks regularly, but also a repeat sit with a parrot, who is very entertaining.
Alas, I live too far away from you.
Are you actually having issues not getting applications (because your post doesn’t SAY that)? I would think sitters would like the freedom of time with the seeming ease of your animals. If you are not getting applicants, you could attach your listing link, make a new post and have forum members help you improve the look and content of your listing.
We’ve had a parrot for 25 years, and I’ve had one sit that was two cockatiels. While it’s less prevalent on THS than dogs & cats, you should be fine.
Perhaps, if you get a sitter who’s inexperienced with birds, leave extended care instructions and/or maybe a book or guide on your breed as they’ll likely find it interesting and it will help ensure they understand how to best care for your pets.
Best of luck, & welcome to the forums!

It sounds like you’ve got a lovely variety of pets, and I’m glad to see so many people agree that many sitters would enjoy caring for feathered friends!
As mentioned by @MTBer, it might be helpful to add your listing link to your Forum profile, and members can take a look to see how you could attract more sitters? You can learn how to add your listing to your Forum profile by clicking here, or I can add it for you if that’s easier!

Besides dogs and cats, I have birds in my search filter. Your listing would therefore show up in my saved searches
I’d have thought that having birds is a bonus, not a problem, as they need less time to care for them. We have done sits for homes with a parakeet, chickens, sheep, a bearded dragon and homes with no pets at all - All far easier than cats or dogs.
I have a bird too! A new-to-me parakeet budgie in South Carolina. After sitting for years, I had to get a sitter for the first time recently and boy did I luck out! My first applicant were a couple who were fantastic sitters! For 6 weeks they took amazing care of my bird and my house. They even raised the bar for me on being a great sitter. I couldn’t believe how wonderful they were. I think about them often.
I had budgies as a child. As an adult we adopted an elderly Alexandrine parakeet. We also used to care for our friends African Grey parrot. So I’m really comfortable around birds. However there are very few sits with birds! We have done over 50 sits, all but one in the UK, and have yet to do a THS sit for any type of parrot, parakeet or budgie! We have done lots of sits with chickens, ducks and geese.
Your sit would really appeal to us.
