One of the things I love about being a (nearly) full-time PS is the constant variety. A couple of weeks deep in the countryside in the middle of nowhere in a huge old house with some lovely dogs, followed by a week in the middle of the city in a smart modern apartment with a lazy cat.
It certainly keeps life interesting!
Do you tend to look for the same kind of sits/pets/areas/houses or do you too love the variety?
I love being in the middle of the country with active dogs and lots of nearby walks, my idea of heaven. But I’m not adverse to a city sit with cats and lots of time to visit art galleries, museums and see the sights. In the summer I’m always looking for family sits by the seaside as I usually have grandchildren over the school holidays. And in the colder months anywhere that has temperatures over 20C.
There’s something for everyone out there!
I usually look for rural sits with a variety of animals to keep me busy (I love horses and donkeys), and I love adding new types of animals whenever I can. That’s my favorite kind of variety.
Love cats and dogs, but avoid dogs I can’t lift. That’s in case of reactivity or emergency.
Sit only when telecommuting and often tack on extra days at a hotel and/or take side trips, to sightsee freely.
I sit only in the U.S. or U.K., because everywhere else, I want to sightsee without responsibilities.
Lean heavily toward cities, but might consider elsewhere with reliable high-speed internet. Not the countryside, because few amenities.
Love nesting at home as well and do non-sit travel for variety.
We also have an RV. Great for places that don’t welcome dogs, like museums or some national parks. Our pooch stays safe and we can keep him warm or cool. At night, we check into dog-friendly hotels.
