I'm new and want to learn!

Hi, I’m 24 years old, I’m married and I live in Italy… For years I’ve been seeing information about this job but I don’t know if there’s really a demand for it or not, can anyone give me some advice? I was a babysitter for two years for two kids in Argentina and I really love animals… Cleaning is not a problem for me so I do it with pleasure… is there anyone who also had doubts at the beginning? perhaps… how long can it take to get my first job? because as a newbie I won’t have any reviews and maybe they won’t trust me… thanks for your time!

This isn’t a job, you don’t get paid, so it probably isn’t for you.

Hi there,
Trusted House Sitters is not a paid job. It is a mutually beneficial and mutually free exchange. Owners going on vacation get a free pet sitter to care for their home and pets while they’re away. The pet sitter gets a free stay in the owner’s home and the opportunity to see a new country or place.

If a travel exchange while caring for pets is what you’re seeking, then Trusted House Sitters will be the perfect fit for you. However, if you’re looking for paid local pet sitting work in Italy, Trusted House Sitters cannot offer you this and you will likely need to start your own local pet sitting business or work for a local pet sitting agency in Italy. Trusted House sitters is also a British site, and most pet sits are listed in the United Kingdom, America, Canada and Australia. Occasionally there are pet sits listed in broader Europe and a few other countries, but these are less common. So if you’re seeking a travel exchange to these countries, then it will be a good fit :+1:

sii tienen razon, sin embargo creo que tambien podria ser de grann experiencia al conocer otras culturas y ahorrar en la estadia si en un futuro quiero conocer un nuevo pais . gracias por tu respuesta , me postulare lo antes posible ! Bendiciones

Yes, they are right, however I think it could also be a great experience to get to know other cultures and save on the stay if in the future I want to visit a new country. Thank you for your response, I will apply as soon as possible! Blessings.

It is a great experience to travel and also enjoy caring for homes and animals.
As a young person and being new, you will want to get referrals from anyone who can write about how trustworthy you are and any time you have spent caring for animals. And if you are traveling as a couple, you want referrals about both of you.
You would probably want to start by applying for sits close to you where you can meet the hosts in advance, perhaps. Unfortunately, Italy does not seem to have as many sits available as places like the UK, but if you look regularly you are bound to find something!
I will say that this is a platform where most people use English, so if you are going to travel outside of Italy (I see your post is in Spanish but you live in Italy so I assume you know those two languages) to a country where you don’t speak the language, it might be challenging if you don’t speak English.
Good Luck!

You could try starting out with a website like Nomador, as it is a much more multilingual site and there are more European sits available, sometimes in Italy or neighboring countries. My partner and I started out with Nomador, and then used Trusted House Sitters mainly for pet sits in the United Kingdom, as there are not many pet sits in Europe outside the United Kingdom on this platform.

Hi @orianakarin !

As carpediem16 says English is mostly the worklanguage, so starting out in your own country could be a great option. It is often advised to start out locally anyway to get a few reviews. Hosts in your own country might be happy to have a native speaker as a sitter. (It could even be someone from your country that are expats in another country that need a sitter for the occasional sit).

It could also be helpful to actually learn more English. Conversations in petsitting mostly revolve around the topics of travel, home and pets and one can prepare for this. Many things is also good to agree - or at least confirm - in writing, to be able to check out that the parties have a clear understanding of what is expected.

Hope you enjoy it. Best of luck!
