In Italy, for hotels or Air BNB’s one is required to provide a copy of their passport - its the law in Italy.
I have never been asked that but I am new here. On a smaller local House Sit website for registration, they did ask for a copy of my liability insurance.
I understand the need to be careful but I think a first chat or video time is a preferable way to start.
References are a tricky thing. Clearly no one is going to provide a reference that isn’t positive. Whereas, reviews of actual sits tell the story of how things went (hopefully.) And asking for someone’s surname pre-selection is not unreasonable. People are giving over their homes and pets to a “stranger” so getting as much info as makes them comfortable is understandable. To me as a HO at least.
Yes, I was asked for this information post selection. As stated in my original message, I was perfectly happy to provide that and did not find this to be an unreasonable request.
