Hi, I am trying to set up back to back sits in the UK so we can have confirmed sits in advance of our travelling from Australia (at least for the first couple of months). Is it ok to apply for multiple sits that have some of the same dates and then cancel the other applications when we secure a sit? In most cases we haven’t had a response from the HOs to our other applications so I assume they are not that interested anyway. What is the protocol/etiquette? Regards, Jenny
I believe that many folks follow this protocol when making long term plans. I would always cancel the other applications immediately upon confirming a new sit. Best of luck in making your plans!!!
I think it’s very wise to apply for multiple sits. You’re just applying….some owners might not respond or delay in responding, others will be quick off the mark. It gives you more options
Hi @Crookie
Absolutely apply to as many as you like. Once you confirm a sit, stay with it and remove your application from any that overlap or create a conflict.
You will find many more will be available as time draws nearer and once you are in the UK as many will be hesitant to confirm till they feel more comfortable with your arrival.
All the best.
No problem at all, just as you might apply for different job applications.
Hi @Crookie. Like everyone has said, it is perfectly okay to apply for sits with the same dates but do have the courtesy when withdrawing an application and let the HO know as you never know you may like to apply again another time or they could invite you. Like you, I’m in Australia and off to England mid June until end of September and already have 8 sits confirmed with very few gaps in between. Do allow a couple of days in between in case of cancellations or travel plans by owners or yourselves that go pear shape at the last minute. I have a couple of sits that run into each other but have asked owners to have someone on call should there be a delay by either of us. Enjoy your time away.
That’s great advice @temba about co-ordinating your sits. I will also defitely let HOs know straightaway when my availability changes. Good luck with your UK adventure. Regards, Jenny
I agree. No problem applying for multiple sits but it is appreciated to let people know when you have accepted a sit.
I posted to have someone sit for me in July. I answered each person promptly and let them know that I would accept applications for 5 days then would arrange zoom calls. A couple from Canada accepted a sit from someone else, but didn’t think to let me know. I found out when I followed up to arrange a zoom call. Fortunately I found the perfect sitters but I would have appreciated them taking themselves out of consideration.
I agree. We always let people know if/when we accept another sit. I like to think it’s the same courtesy we would expect from a home owner.
We only apply to one sit at a time but there have been some special circumstances where we applied to 2 sits simultaneously (either because it was urgent for us to find a sit or because the listing already had relatively many applicants). But we don’t think it’s objectionable for others to apply to multiple sits, especially if the sits have more than 0-3 applicants and you don’t feel confident that you’ll secure the sits.
Thank you for this question. I’m new and was thinking the same.
Would you go so far as to mention this on your profile?
Are HO used to sitters doing this? Is it standard practice?
How soon do you find out if you have been chosen and can HO see when you save them as a favourite?
So many newbie questions😊
At first I didn’t but then realized so many of the HO’s don’t respond right away or eventually decline without explanation. I now apply for multiple sits and if I get one confirmed, I cancel the other applications and write a message to let them know I confirmed a sit that conflicts with their dates. I had one I cancelled and I hadn’t heard from them since the application but then they messaged back saying they were interested in our family. By that time it was too late because we already had a committment. Not sure why some HO’s wait so long.
