I DAILY get mails “new sits matching …” (over 100).
When I want to read the results … actually NEVER 1 pops up … ALWAYS “sorry, not this time”.
Are these fake results to “attrack people” I’m starting to think ?
Does THS manipulates things ?
Do only new members get to see them ?
I’m still (after 2,5 years) very happy doing petsits because of the animals but since the takeover THS is no longer about animals, people, trust warmth, service, … it is all about MONEY, MONEY, MONEY.
Also CHAT FRANKIE is now terrible to use … after 1 hour chatting I was back at the beginning … I gave up.
Are you a paid THS member? If so, then often the very desirable locations like the ones you mentioned are highly competitive and by the time you get the notification that it is posted, they’ve already received their 5 application limit.
I’ve saved dozens of listings and experience this regularly for the highly desirable locations (Portugal, S of France, Paris, Greece, summer sits in Denmark, Sweden, Norway, winter sits in Florida, Mexico, etc). It has been unusual that by the time I see the alert and it matches our availability that I have time to apply…you are better off just checking multiple times a day the area you are most interested in.
At least for me, saving listings or regions hasn’t worked very well as desirable are often gone by the time I get to them. I found my one sit in France by randomly searching at odd hours. This is also how I’ve found other great sits.
I’d recommend if something is in review, to keep trying to track it at random times because hosts may manage the sit and look for more applications at random times.
It’s well worth calculating the time zones and more likely times when sits are listed eg mostly after work so 6-10pm at the location or often on a Sunday I’ve found.
It’s currently 16.30 GMT+1 in England ahd Perth Australia is 7 hours ahead so I’d not expect to see any new listings until maybe 10am Sunday there which is 3am here!
THS’s notification system is slow. Notices I see are about events many minutes to hours ago. I doubt it’s intentional as it causes a lot of unnecessary frustration for members.
Since the five-application limit, the only Paris sit I have been able to even see and apply for was when a cat I was sitting threw up beside me on the bed in the middle of the night. After some 2 AM cleanup and reassuring I-still-love-you cuddles, I figured, I’m wide awake, why not check THS? I was fifth and I got the sit. I am forever grateful to that adorable, vomiting kitty.
The notifications are useless in popular cities. You’ll never get them in time to apply. You just have to be lucky enough to check yourself at the right time.
@LOVEANIMALS, as @carpediem16 noted then listings in Schengen area are no that common. That you seem to receive daily emails of 100+ listings in three French regions seems highly improbably. Suggest delete current saved searches and create new ones.
We have 20-25 saved searches, a handful of which are active at anytime. We’ve never encountered such notifications … that said, we rely wholly on in-app notifications and disable email notifications. Personally, we find email is just too darn slow for THS applications.
If that doesn’t work then below is weblink to other tech troubleshooting ideas. Suspect you may have a fixable tech issue rather than some THS policy challenge.
@meow I love that story of you making the best of your time in the middle of the night. When I wake up at 3am (not happy) I too have a quick check, haven’t scored anything yet and occasionally done a not fully awake and sensible application. Nothing like seeing a gorgeous pet and thinking “ohhhh I want that one” then realising in the morning the location was twice as far away as you thought .
