Lack of interest in our sit

I posted our sit a few weeks ago and before posting I thought it would be popular since the sit is for 3 1/2 weeks. Previously we had two other sits with great sitters for 1 and 2 weeks. But we live in the East San Francisco Bay Area and we have a small house so perhaps it’s not appealing now? Perhaps the world is more uncertain now in terms of travel and cost of fuel?

Yes, and many international sitters don’t want to travel to the US right now. It is harder to attract sitter.

I have been to Martinez and it’s lovely, your home and cat look adorable. The responsibilities are very fair.

It’s just hard right now with fewer sitters traveling right now :frowning:

It’s not until mid Sep into October so plenty of time I’d say. Keep hopeful as it’s a perfectly nice listing with two great reviews- your gorgeous cat is a star!!

You do have plenty of time so no need to fret just yet.

And, a suggestion (from a local) : You might consider adding a bit more detail about nearby or near-by-ish attractions (hiking/biking, Napa, Mt Tam, Mt.Diablo, etc. ) especially since kitty can be left for a good chunk of the day .

Hope you find a wonderful sitter for the utterly adorable Patty !

@Delamarie Suggestions:

  • Title - delete Cat Sitter Needed For our - unnecessary as obvious - then it reduces your title to a reasonable length for the short area the title displays in a search. Another title option is perhaps Car Not Necessary or Walkable Neighbourhood. Sell your best features.
  • Photos - your first photo initially looks to me as an overgrown yard, whereas it’s actually a native plants one. For your first photo I’d use a landscape layout photo of Patty, or perhaps your colourful outside sitting area.
  • Patty - I would add in where she sleeps. Most sitters have preferences about outside or in the bedroom, and/or on the bed.
  • Your review of Beth - I suggest in future you avoid using the wording that you would hire the sitter again. That doesn’t sit well with many sitters. Those who read reviews from both sitters and hosts may pick up on this as a negative. Sitters choose hosts and vice versa. :slightly_smiling_face:
  • Realistically, you are up against many negatives in today’s world, particularly being in the US.

Title suggestion: “Kitty Cuddles in Historic Martinez, Day Trips to SF and Napa”

:slight_smile:

@Delamarie, we’ve completed multiple housesits in your area. But that was a 2-3 years ago when world was a different place.

As @Felinelover rightly noted, many international sitters are no longer applying for US housesits. There’s a huge THS Forum thread on related matters.

We support great actionable advice from @Snowbird. More generally, if any pet parent is not receiving applications then it is probably wise to take a fresh look at listing; compare to other listings in your area; and invest time, effort to take attractive photos; to include complete text information (local area, pet care, travel options, …); to consider if there’s any options that may make listing more attractive (e.g. use of car); and to create a backup plan.

We believe that a high proportion of THS housesitters are based in the US. So there should hopefully be a large pool of potential applicants.

Good luck.

@GotYourBack Hope things change and fine folks like you are welcome again here :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Thanks for your reply. I sure get why people don’t want to come to the US!

Thanks for your suggestions & support!

Thanks so much for your great suggestions! I’ve made a number of changes to the listing.

Thanks for your suggestions!

Thanks for your suggestions. We’re starting on our backup plan!

I see the changes you’ve made to the listing. It looks good!
Take a breath. Your sit doesn’t start until mid September. That’s over 4 months from now! I am a person who plans far in advance, but I have learned that most other people don’t. Your wonderful sitter is out there, but you may not find them for a couple of months.

It looks like you’ve got one applicant, if this one is ok please don’t think you need to wait for more…. ensure you reply quickly and arrange a WhatsApp video chat to explore further if you’re a match. This year seems tougher to get sitters in places requiring a lot of travel or in non popular Cities etc. Your sit looks straightforward and nice. From what others have said I’d certainly consider your location. It sounds great.Unfortunately we’re not considering the USA atm but in a few years maybe… :wink::ok_hand:

Thanks for your suggestions - I will take a breath. We’re so looking forward to this trip so hope that sitter comes through.

That one applicant hasn’t replied to my message and they are outside the US. I just declined their application. Thanks for your feedback.

I wonder if it was the same ones who applied to my September sit - it’s a 9 day sit and I don’t think anyone will fly from Europe just for that, I messaged back asking if they had plans/other sits in the US before or after and they went silent. I guess that means they didn’t have any set plans so I declined them as well. It was a couple.

I do have a well qualified applicant we are set to chat with in a few minutes though, so fingers crossed it goes well and we can confirm.

I think you should leave it up or take it down and put it back up in a couple of weeks. It’s May. There may be eager new sitters (with experience elsewhere and bonafides) or people adjusting their travel schedules before then. There is time to find the right person.

@Felinelover, bless - that’s very sweet.
