Landmark 100 reviews reached today

haha, HouseSittersGuide - thanks! Not a machine, simply a full-time nomadic cat sitter. I think they are all 5 star but tbh I don’t remember. Not many hosts comment on the number of sits that I have done, but some mention they feel reassured by the fact that I have a lot of experience looking after cats

I’ll be doing fewer short sits in future - I really prefer 2 weeks and over

hi GotYourBack - I have a licence and I drive a car in Italy as the hosts there provide a car, but so far not in the UK which is fine by me. I manage okay with buses, trains and the occasional taxi although it would be nice if the bus & train ticket prices were lower like in Europe. In my opinion, public transport in the UK is overpriced. London is fine though (bus and train).

Here we are all stressing about a lower than 5 star review and you are like… Meh I have no idea.

I noticed a massive shift when I hit the 10’s, we would get more dinner invites, gifts. I can’t even fathom what it must be like hitting 50 or even 100. Do you get selected instantly? like the moment you apply, the owners just click confirm without even asking any questions?

And once again, congratulations.

Haha, HouseSittersGuide it’s not that I have no idea, I just don’t want to say they are all 5 star unless I check them all again now, which I can’t be bothered to do! I’m pretty sure they are all 5 stars. Actually it has been on my mind from time to time. This year a host wrote a review and hit 1 star or whatever by mistake cos she was doing it on her phone and couldn’t see properly - anyway in that case we both emailed THS and got it changed to 5 star which is what she intended to give to me.

I don’t always get chosen instantly - there have been a few sits I applied for (and really wanted to do) when I already had a lot of reviews and the hosts chose somebody else - but in those cases, they also said that although they chose another sitter they hope I can look after their cat in the future. I also noticed there are some hosts who perhaps feel obliged to accept the sitter who applied first or before me - they do it in order of receiving applications. Which I think is a bit weird, but I guess they think that is the fair way to do it, on a sort of first come first served basis.

I definitely do not get dinner invites or gifts due to the number of my reviews!

Yeah, I have had a few house sits rejected and home owners inviting me for future house sits, exactly in the same fashion as what you mentioned. They go for first in best dressed, which defeats the purpose of the 5 star limit.

I guess each to their own.

Oh, well that sucks, you deserve them. You are a unicorn in the house sitting community  Can you even imagine, how much value you have brought to people’s lives. that’s 100 people, families you have helped out. What an incredible story. Waiting for your biography.

All the best

haha HouseSittersGuide - thanks for your kind words. Even more than the humans, I love and remember the more than 100 beautiful cats that I have looked after. I had an extremely close and special relationship with some of them. That said all of them were beautiful felines - I am so happy to have gotten to know them during the cat sits I did

@HouseSittersGuide, we’re not 100+ review professionals like superstar @cat.tails! But we’ve 70+ sits and 50+ reviews (quite a few private sits from friends or connections or repeats in perhaps 20 countries.

We still receive plenty of declines (e.g. sometimes we openly state need for car use given rural location, so forcing a dealbreaker topic at application stage). And we withdraw applications after a good portion of video calls (e.g. surprises/confessions from pet parent during video call … did we forget to mention …). We sometimes receive invite-to-sit after applications but never accept any invitations without a video call.

We perceive selection process of housesitting as an effort to find best fit - three way - between pet parents, housesitters and pets. Decline or withdrawal is not some form of psychological rejection. Rather it is an adult decision, on either side, that the fit was poor.

Happy hunting! Perhaps you’ll reach 100 reviews in no time

I mean at this moment I have 89 months of free house sitting, and probably by the end of the month will end up with 100+ so I think I will have plenty of time to get to that magical number of 100

But I guess it does make sense that as you do more house sits, you become more choosy and learn to read body language and the subtle give away’s that could mean the sit is more complex. The only 2 sits I was a little off about were the ones I should have listened my inner dialogue.

But also 70+ house sits, that is massive as well. Congratulations on those. You must have a fair few amazing stories from those

@HouseSittersGuide How on earth have you managed to earn 89 free months??!! Please tell me your tricks! :joy: We’re up for renewal in September and I would so love to delay the fees a bit longer!

haha, well I built a whole website about house sitting and have written over 260 articles that are related to the topic.

I mean you could go down that route, but If I calculate the price of renewal vs, the amount of time I have sunk in this little project I would say that paying is probably the easiest option.

When I get to 100 this month, I might just send people to your profile to extend your time
I’ll think about it

@HouseSittersGuide Wow I’m impressed! You certainly earned all those extra months!

And I’d be delighted to have some extra months referred once you reach your limit!

Congratulations! I am on sit no 65, and I know it is not always easy!

Congratulations!

Congratulations that’s some going

Amazing, well done. That’s more than 20 sits a year, very impressive!

If I was the CEO of THS I would honor you with a year membership to show thanks for doing a great job and contributing to our success!

hi SeniorSitter1
I received an email from THS today and will quote part of it

We just noticed a major milestone on your profile - you’ve officially hit 100 reviews!

Reaching 100 reviews is no small feat. It takes incredible dedication, trust, and care to build up a reputation like that, and we couldn’t be happier to have you as such a valued part of our community.

To say a huge thank you for being such a fabulous sitter, we’ve added 3 free months to your account on us!

Thank you for consistently delivering top-tier experiences. Here’s to the next 100!

Maybe your post had something to do with this!

Wow and well done.

I have done 140 sits and have never been offered anything

wow, Itchyfeet you really do have itchy feet! Congrats on such a huge number of sits. I am not sure I will make it to 140 - my own itchy feet are starting to dream of “settling down” on a narrowboat which of course is also a nomadic lifestyle unless we pay for a permanent mooring spot.

I have no idea how they worked out I have just completed 100 sits - maybe via this thread?

I would say that the moderators probably seen it and passed it on

perhaps they will see and pass on itchyfeet’s sit count too
