Sitters,
Before agreeing to sit in Colorado, my home state, please ask specifically in which town the H.O. resides. I’m catching on to “Denver” and “Boulder” in titles that should be specified to surrounding towns.
Hope that helps,
Molly
Especially if you’re from a region/country that is fairly compact. The western US states are mind-bogglingly vast. The inhabitants there think nothing of driving 2 hours (one-way) for a shopping trip. Coming from the East Coast, I struggled to cope with the scale of the distances. (Not on a sit, just visiting a relative.)
Really can apply almost anywhere. Some HOs are really good about letting you know, others not. Before accepting a sit I always ask for some very nearby landmarks, restaurants… Something I can plug into map software to get a real sense of the location, availability of transit and amenities. I get that folks may not want to share exact addresses until agreeing to the sit, but there are workarounds.
Those are great ideas, thanks!

Definitely not ALL! I wouldn’t dream of going that far to shop more than an hour away, but I don’t like shopping much. Except for online shopping! Love that! haha
Another perspective: it’s not necessarily dishonesty. On HO’s’ end, THS says to choose the largest nearby town. They limit options for choosing a location too. For instance, I live in a tiny town in the unincorporated part of a larger city. Our zip code is the same but I’m 20 minutes from downtown and I can’t select my actual town. I describe it in my listing though.
Also it’s been recommended here to use a nearby large town as sitters from out of town don’t know the name of all the small towns in an area they’re looking to visit. Denver would be a catch-all for towns within a reasonable range so sitters can find sits around that area and HOs in tiny towns don’t get overlooked.
