Location of sitter missing from profiles

I just happened to notice today that the city where I live is missing from underneath the heading on my profile. I clicked on some other sitters’ profiles and none of them have the location of where they live. I’m really curious as to the reasoning of why THS would choose to delete this info from sitters’ profiles? Wouldn’t a homeowner like to know the location where a potential sitter resides?

Look further down. I noticed this a few days ago when I had an update.

It has moved. You can see it further down when you click on ID verified.
I think it should be more prominent (as before). On the other hand some sitters change their location based on where they want to be, rather than where they are.

I totally agree! Would like to hear from THS though as to why this change was made as it makes no sense whatsoever.

@Globetrotter I can think of a few reasons, although I’m not justifying them:

  1. They maybe don’t support people being able to change their location to suit their next chosen travels, rather than where they actually live. If they can’t stop it, they’ll hide it.
  2. Because of hesitation about border crossings, they may not want to highlight that the sitter may need to pass through immigration. Yes, it can be found if owners read carefully, but it’s less noticeable, for sure. :face_with_monocle:
  3. Lastly, there may not be any logical answer as to why. :zipper_mouth_face:

Thanks for your feedback Snowbird I have a feeling point #3 is probably the one! I would still like to hear from THS as to the logic behind this change but perhaps no logic

I just noticed that also Globetrotter. The location is now buried further down and not very easy to find at all.
I use it as a sitter to see whether past sitters were all fairly local to the sit.
I am sure for pet owners it must be very frustrating as it is an important piece of information.

Another POV: I personally have been living out of a suitcase for the past few years. When people ask where I live, I tell them “I’m based out of NYC,” because that’s where my last long-term residence was… but I feel like I don’t really “live” in any one place anymore. Therefore, in my case, my profile’s location info (NYC) is a little misleading/irrelevant.

This obviously doesn’t apply to everyone or even to most sitters. Just offering it as another suggestion.

They’ve also changed how reviews are displayed in the app. They don’t show automatically anymore. You have to tap to expand the section for sitters (as was already the case for HOs).

But most irksome for me is because they force a Job title even when you select Retired as your Occupation status, and because they only display Occupation (which is taken from Job title, not the more logical Occupation status, it looks like those of us who aren’t working are working. This makes our profiles look like either we made errors/they are outdated or we are lying about our occupation status. (And this is a problem in both the app and web versions of our profiles.) The workaround, of course, is just to change your job title to Retired as well, but it’s a flawed design and shouldn’t be done that way.

It is wonky as you say @meow.
I entered (retired) after my old profession in the job title field.
To anyone looking at my profile it shows as my old profession (retired) for Occupation.
Strange but it works.

That’s what I use it for too. It helps to know if homeowners prefer local or out of town sitters as some homeowners aren’t interested in local sitters. I

Love your forum name
