@anon84784007 , so sorry to read this. You are such a caring soul. All I can suggest is that you cover these issues in your future pre-sit phone or video calls. I also think you should make sure this HO does not sense any negativity from you while you are there. Go over and above to do a good job for them so they will leave you a good review. After they have left your review, leave your feedback where you can mention these things. You can say that future sitters should bring their own loo rolls as the HO does not provide it for sitters. Also that excavation was in process during your sit. Don’t worry, there are still great sits out there. Better ones await!

I am pleased to see that my post has generated some healthy discussion, as it’s a great part of this community. However, I’ll reiterate that the reason I created this post is seen in the title, and repeated at the start of the post:

Those who want more particulars of this listing are straying from the intent of my post. Easy to do, I realize, but I want to stay focussed on reinforcing my point. I am therefore choosing not to respond to any questions about the listing.

Thank you to those who have taken an interest, and found the post useful.

Wishing everyone happy and safe travels. :slightly_smiling_face:

Very kind of you, mars, thank you for a reply, and your soothing understanding.
Yes, there are so many incredible Sits, I will feel into the hope of that.

I have found my Scotland-forever home in Dunkeld thanks to a wonderful, really fun, gentle and easy 11-day TH Sit, so I am forever grateful, even if my feathers were ruffled by other Sits.

Thank you for your guidance. I am clear and honest, and from Maui, so when I say what I need, it seems I am sometimes met with resistance, pushback and denied, no matter how gently and daringly I express myself. It is seen as negative to ask for my needs, somehow, and I suspect the Hosts are silently ashamed with their negligence being lit up, possibly, or they may be righteously uninterested…honestly, who knows? They are on vacation and I am caring for their world.

I have learned: The 3 C’s.
I did not cause their behavior,
I can not control it and
I can not cure it. So, I am free to enjoy my own lane, and grieve my own losses, and create my own fun.

I am fine with any type of review as I know my heart, and it is pure, clear and gold, and I offer great caring despite any obstacles and disappointments. I know what I offer, and I know what I am showing up with.

I love that my discernment is growing, and I will use all this to determine the best fit for all concerned in future Sits. I had to try when I was new, since May 2023. I just jumped in, and with my dog it has been more challenging to find Sits, perhaps. I did my best to be clear on setting up the 6 Sits so far, and now I know better! I had 4 really fun Sits, and made deeply beautiful connections with the TH Hosts/(Pet Parents, as you all say), and their pets. So much fun!

Thank you!

I am also receiving very helpful support from TH Team, Thank GOD!

Hi @anon84784007 - please, please report these two HOs to support and list all the policies they have broken. Please also write honest and accurate reviews of your real experience on these horrible sits. We have watched your journey as you joined the forum community, your enthusiasm for life, your joy at heading to the other side of the world with Tarkina and your openness to this adventure. It makes us incredibly sad that this has happened to you so early in your THS journey. Even if little comfort right now, we hope you’ll be better at spotting the great HOs (of which there are many) and it will be onwards and upwards you go! Sending hugs & humanity from afar :sri_lanka::hugs::orange_heart:

@Travelgirl1111 having internal cameras are against THS terms and conditions. Writing honest reviews will also help future sitters

@anon84784007 my goodness, you’ve had your share of bad experiences. If only there was a way to only attract good natured, honest, grateful, forthcoming people to this platform. THS should work on more of an educational component prior to people signing up so that everyone knows what makes a great experience for both sides. Then more people of quality would host and sit

As a home owner I find this completely out of this world. “Employment requirement”??? Contact info for previous owners…hello , they are called “REVIEWS” …As a sitter I would have run and immediately reported this…

why am I not quite getting this…aren’t all of our profiles on line with our picture? Why would a HO asked for a picture?? And not providing things Like toilet papper???What in the world. we have a sitter come and everything is left for them…everything. People should always be required to have spotless comfortable homes----hotel like cleanliness…I simply do not understand this whole thing…wow! Our home welcomes sitters like family and it has worked out so beautifully, with beautiful sitters…Next one coming in SEPT…I believe quite new to this org so hoping our perfect trend continues…(that someone would ask for private info re past HOme Owners is also amazing to me…

@IHeartAnimals totally agree but sadly it’s quantity over quality for THS

I am so very grateful and touched by the consistently supportive caring words here, and always. Thank you, Cuttlefish! I have been in clear and consistent communication with TH Team, on both Sits, and they are amazing!

I am grateful to be able to provide clarity when hosts act on their own sense of things, and deny the stated TH objectives and TH policies, which are inherently fair and mutually empowering when honored.

I have been asked to leave 5 days early, which I am absolutely not accepting, and we will see how that unfolds. In any case, I am learning a lot! Bless your sharing your attention on this journey of a thousand miracles. Soon, I will be settling into my own home, and can share more on the beauty I have been witness to as well as the “yikes-y bits.”
Ha! Love, Aloha, Claire – and as for my beloved home of 15 years, where I lived my dream and loved designing a 258-acre regenerative farm there: Maui, please, keep her in your prayers. 2,000 people were burned alive, families in a huddle and many children and pets locked inside. I am hearing from my friends and family there. Even if you do not pray, say something to the Great Mystery of the truth being known and lit up for true healing to meet the roots of this event.

Yes, yes, yes, so true. It seems many people agree with your, and my, take on this.
I am seeking TH support that this brings needed clarity for future Hosts who do not realise their vital contributions to a clean, clear home for Trusted Housesitters invite mutual satisfaction.

I can agree they have been painful, frustrating, persistently awful and very sad to me, as I love trust growing, and feel the pain of the disappointment of a lost relationship of mutual respect and trust, but “bad” depends;
I am learning.
I am being courteous and courageous, and asking for what I need.
I am finding my feelings strong and accurate.
I am trusting myself.
I am sure these Sits are bringing feedback for Trusted Housesitters to improve, and
I accept this is a wildly wonderful thing, being able to share these exchanges.

I am glad I can bring my gifts, and see where they ripple. So much of the love we share in this world may never be seen, acknowledged or appreciated, but nothing and no one has hurt me enough for me to give up on my love being a force of Nature and benevolence,
and
a “bad experience” does not a fortune make. Love does.
Now, I feel better.
I have let the hosts I am currently working with know that I deserve mutual respect for the way I am being here, and
I deserve they keep our agreement as is, and I am grateful for the beauty here.
And,
I do feel richer in Spirit, following my guidance in every move I make. Thank you, I :heart:Animals for this support. It helps, a lot. Sitting can be “solitudinous,” and a bit lonely in moments, so I appreciate being heard here, very much.

It’s my understanding (gained from asking the hotels why they require my passport) that, in some countries, it is required for legally registered lodging establishments to register the occupants with their government. In Thailand, hoteliers must do so quite quickly. Even hostels and guesthouses must follow this protocol.

Hello @cbassano as you tagged me I have sent you a DM

Hotels, airbnbs and villas in countries all over Asia require passports from all guests @faithlotus - it’s partly for tourism figures, for paying government taxes and for embassy info :+1:t3:

Oh cool, thank you for this information.

I don’t think you should be asked to give contact information from previous sits. That would be my red flag for sure. I agree with your concerns. Thanks for sharing!!

Hi pietkuip
Im interested in liability insurance. Did you organise it through THS?
Thanks

Italy has this law; we are asked for ID wherever we stay the night. It feels very Big Brother to British people but “When in Rome” (aptly enough). Travelling the world brings myriad pleasures but also onerous responsibilities.

No, that was just part of my ordinary home insurance. In Sweden, that is usually a complete package: fire, liability, water damage, burglary, etc. It is very standard here.
