A friend from Toronto is trying to sign up (I’ve already received my credit!) but the background check is only allowing her to give a US address. Any insights into that? Thanks.
The agency that they use (“Evident” I think) can only do this for US residents. Such a company is maybe not even legal in Canada (privacy laws).
If it’s insisting she needs the background check, then she should contact member services and speak to a human since the criminal background check is only for US-based sitters.
Are you a US member? I’m wondering if your referral link sent them to a US signup page instead of a Canadian one.
A post on another thread noted there are different sign-up pages with different pricing based on your country. Usually it auto-adjusts based on your physical location when you access the page, but possibly they missed adding that code to the referral-link signup page(s)? Or else, is the person physically located in the US while trying to sign up, even though they live in Canada? (If so, they’ll either need to wait until they’re home, or use a vpn and tunnel in from Canada to register/pay.)
@Mark_B @Jenny or current on-duty mods…any thoughts on this?
Yes, it was my US referral link. She recently moved to Toronto from the US and I don’t think it occurred to either of us that there was a difference. We are both going to message THS because I’m sure it’s a small thing that can be worked out.
Thank you for your response!
Hi @DianaO
Let us know what Membership Services come back with - it’d be good to know what’s happening here.
If you don’t hear from them within a couple of days, let me know, and I can give them a nudge. ![]()
Jenny
Good news! The issue was a US billing address. It was resolved easily by changing that, profile was published and she’s already choosing a sitter! Thanks, all.
Thanks for letting us know, @DianaO ![]()
