So glad you feel more confident about moving forwards, @OnAQuest.
It may perhaps be reassuring to know that out of over 20 something sits, one of my favourites is the smallest and most humble home I sat in. A tiny ‘two-up, two- down’ cottage, 11 foot wide at most. But it was clean, uncluttered, tidy, light and very well organised. The hosts were lovely, warm and welcoming. Most importantly of all, the pets were incredibly fun, loving, adorable and just fantastic good company. I was so happy, comfortable and cosy there.
I’ve stayed at some huge and impressive places too. But either way, it’s the pets, the people, the cleanliness, care and communication that counts the most.
I have just applied for a sit in a studio apartment and it sounds great. For me it’s the vibe I get that’s important, not what the house or apartment look like. Most of all, the owners need to be honest about their expectations and about their pets, and they need to have a warm welcoming attitude. I couldn’t care less about old furniture or something chewed on by an animal. For me, being a pet owner and being super precious about your home is a contradiction.
Nevermind. Asked and answered already but new forum rules won’t let me delete.
Since I can’t delete, let me offer some examples:
to do a number on (American idiom) to mess something or someone up, to cause a problem for someone or something:
My cats have done a number on the side of my bed. I never should have gotten an upholstered bed!
John really did a number on Mary. It was a tumultuous relationship and she’s still reeling from the breakup.
Regarding numbers one and two – euphemisms
The dog hasn’t had a number two in over a day. I’m worried.
When the dog has to do number one and can’t wait, he uses the wee-wee pad, but he usually waits longer if he has to do number two.
A place for many (most, I’d make a strong bet) that is not at all fancy is both fine and much the norm to be in.
To specifically your home inside cleanliness and functioning statuses are the biggies. Is it clean? Do the utilities and other such work properly?
Being cluttered (not hoarded, but you know… ) a bit, being worn in… not a problem for me or many. And most homes fall into some category of “nothing fancy”.
Some of us are fine staying places that are actively being renovated or are unfinished, heck. Or we are aware there is an issue with the water or whatever X thing until a specific date (I had one sit where they were having work done to their place and the shower wasn’t usable because the workers kept delaying on them in various ways and so I used a neighbor’s shower they were friends with until I found a way to rig the shower myself and then the workers finally did their job right haha… zero problem with it, was a great sit, would do so again for them - because they were upfront about how they were in the middle of work on the home, nothing was sprung on me!).
To the larger picture location, pet types, and length of sit are what make me look into and be interested in a sit.
A house being dirty or hoarding or such is a dead “no”. But just a regular lived-in and clean house? What I expect to see listed!
As you read around the forums you’ll note that over and over and I’m sure will make you feel more comfortable: the biggest “the home itself” detail concern that comes up good and bad is cleanliness.
