Need a new sitter asap

Hi our wonderful sitter cancelled yesterday (after committing 3 months ago and confirming again two weeks ago). We are leaving on vacation in less than a month. I’ve not received any applications since I went back live again two days ago.

Do any of you have any suggestions for getting my listing up at the top of searches again? I added photos and changed a few sentences, so I was hoping that would help.

Thank you, Lynn

That’s so very disappointing for you @lnwerner. Remove your dates briefly then re-post them which will make your listing New again. You can do this as often as you need to. Good luck🤞

Definitely do what @temba states in order to show your listing as “new” again.

What a gorgeous dog, and a lovely home you have!! We would help you if we could, but we are going to be in Oregon during those dates. I have favorited your home; please consider us for future.

You might consider allowing a sitter to use your car for added attraction, especially since you mention taking the dog to dog parks and hiking trails nearby.

Dog can be left for 4 hours, so sitters could explore a bit. Marin County is one of the most beautiful places!! Weather is typically pristine in May!

Adorable  You have a beautiful home!

There’s a couple of things I often find myself missing in listings. First, information about the mattress (firm, medium, soft)—it’s crucial, no matter the type of accommodation.

Another important detail is the walking distance to the nearest train or bus station. For anyone not local, especially those flying in from abroad, this information is crucial.

Your listing seems quite dependent on having access to a car. If you offer the use of your car, it’s important to consider the different insurance details. Many Europeans, particularly younger travelers, may not have a driver’s license at all. In those cases, offering alternatives like covering transportation costs and grocery deliveries - perhaps even tickets to something like a winery tour in the area, could be a great addition to their stay.

That said, from the perspective of your listed responsibilities, the options for someone to explore other areas and San Francisco (which is likely the reason for traveling there) seem rather limited. Since it’s a schedule - doesn’t leave room for much more than a few hours away. That’s a major reason why people might choose a different listing.

Additionally, it’s important to remember that this is likely also during the sitters vacation - not everyone wakes up at dawn while off from work.

I’m a city potato—one of the rare few who doesn’t hike!—but occasionally chosen listings in remote areas that offer something unique - like views of wild orcas from the backyard. That’s obviously hard to beat, but there are many ways, small touches, and carrots to attract a good match - quickly!

Good Luck!

@lnwerner, sorry to hear of cancellation and low applications.
I see great advice from others.
We’d encourage patience, perseverance and a backup plan.
Checked your listing - lovely. On a 4-5 month West US housesit tour in 2023/4 winter then we completed multiple housesits in the SF area. Lovely people. Enjoyable times. But this year we’re in the wrong continent and have no plans to visit the US.
Hoping that you receive applications in the near term. But seems prudent to at least start thinking about a backup plan just in case applications are poor.
Good luck!
