Can anyone help? I need someone to sit after Christmas through new Year. I have not had any applicants.
Hi there,
I can certainly help, but again I think this needs its own thread - @Jenny!
Thanks @Nagy26 new thread set up!
@Charlyflynn - I’m sure our members would be happy to give you some advice on how to attract some applicants to your listing
Thanks (again) Jenny
@Charlyflynn I took a look for you. Overall, you have a positive and friendly listing, which is great. I think the biggest issue is your dates - they are awkward dates and it may be difficult to find a sitter for that week between Christmas and New years, especially as the sit ends on NYD. Consider that on this day, people don’t usually want to travel & many stores etc will be closed. It’s best to give sitters the option to leave on Jan 2nd if that’s a possibility for you. Here are some tips for your listing:
1: Your intro starts off by describing yourself & your hobbies etc. while this is all very nice, try and hook sitters from the start with a compelling intro that’s relevant to the sit and why somebody should sit for you at New Years. For example “Come spend New Year’s at my large home perfect for families seeking fun NYE activities near Cardiff!” I do like that you have described in your intro that your home is good for families, kids & pets - that’s great! Consider adding when a sitter should arrive (if it’s the day before, this is also a public holiday and not many people will want to travel on that day).
2: Home and location
This section is great & nicely laid out. However, it isn’t relevant to New Years - tell sitters what is there to do & see in your area at this time and are there any fun NYE activities in Cardiff or nearby? Please also tell sitters what public transport is available in the area, and whether you can collect sitters from the nearest station or airport. Also, is your home still being renovated & painted, or is that information not current? If not, please update. Also tell sitters how is the heating in your home?
3: Responsibilities section:
You have left this section a little sparse. Sitters want to know:
- What are your dog’s personalites?
- Do they get along?
- Where do they sleep?
- Are they allowed anywhere in the house?
- Do they behave well with other dogs? Are they walked on or off leash?
- You say they are used to being left during the day, but please specify for how long (if you have a set amount of hours)
- Do they have any medications or health conditions?
Hope that all helps, and here is a blog that may also be helpful
Not entirely MIA, but trying to plan a funeral from across the Atlantic and dealing with a lot.
Oh no, so sorry to hear that Sending condolences & well wishes!
Sorry to hear that @btinternetDC we’ll be here when you’re ready.
I am a sitter and there has been a huge amount of requests this year. More than usual and I have had other people having difficulties too. I think if you want to give your listing link others might have some suggestions to help you get that perfect person! Fingers crossed for you!
Oops the team already has great suggestions! ( odd it didn’t show until I posted???)
